Well was my new $$ Tina fixed blade worth the price?..........

No..... (Well was my new $$ Tina fixed blade worth the price?)... No...no... no.... I had high hopes that my buy was a good one, and maybe once I grind it down it will be ......... BUT, as a whole my feed back on the Tine is less than stellar. My cheaper - almost free Antonini grafting knives...

Finally got around to making my new knife sharpening strops (strop boards) with a few improvements over the last ones. I can pull large kitchen knives across these with full reach pulls. 4" by about 24"'s of dual sided smooth and suede leather.. I put jeweler's rouge on one side of each and...

Tip of the day - hog ring pliers and chicken wire

Just wanted to pass this on, Its not much of a tip but it saved me a ton of time once I realized I needed one. I had a little rabbit visitor into my nursery out at the farm... Mr. bunny, now that we have snow, was able to hop over my 2' chicken wire. The original wire with time and my...

    Fixed blade grafting knife

Well I went and did it.. bought a fixed blade Tina for bench grafting. 90% of what I graft is whip and tongue done in my garage and the folder makes me nervous. I was going to take an old fixed blade knife and grind it down but I had some extra rewards cash in my prime account - that seemed...

    Aluminum window screen cutting tip

Others may already be doing something like this but this has worked great saving me a ton of time cutting the same sized screens for trunk protection. Box cutter, and a board and some duct tape is about it. Different size board for diff width screen cuttings. Just wrap the screen, I used small...

Im hoping this is a great wild apple find....

Fingers crossed that this is a pretty cool wild apple find. A buddy told me about a tree he thinks is just an old wild apple tree way back at the end of his property deep in some pines that used to be at the edge of an old field/pasture. The tree is pretty wild looking and just a multi trunk...

Rabbit fencing and mid west snow.....

My rabbit fencing is not doing much with this snow..... The temporary fencing for my nursery is a bit at risk, and the skid steer was getting stuck on the bottom side so I went with the snow blower to at least drop the grade back to ground level. I should have bought taller rabbit wire...

DIY cleft graft knife... this time in the right section

I dropped this into the native habitat section by mistake . I watched some commercial operations cleft grafting an orchard and the workers were using cut down kitchen knives. I have never done a cleft graft and figured some day I would have to give it a whirl. So.... I got a discounted clever at...

Ever come back and find your scion tree Paul Bunyan'ed?

Roughly a month or so ago I located an awesome apple/crab tree still loaded with fruit and the ground around it was littered with large fruit. I intended to go back and ask the property owner if I could gather some scion. My intent was to wait till Feb/March to gather it if possible and allowed...

    Sea Berry or Sea Buckthorn

Anyone have any experience with this type of plant... from what I have read it is not the buckthorn we have grown to hate. I ordered some to try in my orchard. Its is intolerant of any type of shade and seems to be non invasive but I do not know a lot about it. The hybrids have less thorns.
