    New Food Plot

I am also in central Missouri (Crawford County). I usually stick with a variation of simple Rye, Oats, radish and medium red clover for my fall plots. My plots are small, less that a half acre each, and have been carved out of forest and logging roads so you will probably have similar soils...

    What's for dinner?

St Patrick’s Day - I desalinated a couple corned beef flats and then seasoned and smoked for pastrami sandwiches.

    Good news - bad news?

Good news - 7 of my 13 pear trees have blossoms this year. Two years ago we had our first two pears. Last year a couple trees had fruit but less than twenty total pears. Bad news - low temps the next two nights are around 27 degrees. I’m hopeful we don’t get a hard freeze but it seems like...

    What's for dinner?

I was organizing a tournament every night last week so we did our Valentine’s dinner last night. Grilled hearts of romaine salad, a 28 ounce porterhouse for two, twice baked potatoes, and asparagus. Cheesecake for dessert but I forgot to take a picture of the cheesecake. Add a bottle of...

    What's for dinner?

Nothing really fancy but my wife loves quiche. I made one with bacon and sausage and another one with broccoli, red bell peppers, mushrooms, and tomatoes - and of course plenty of cheese.

    What's for dinner?

I grilled a rack of lamb last night. Twice baked potatoes and asparagus. It was a great meal - then we got a phone call and spent the night in the hospital. Our oldest went ice skating, got his toe stuck in the ice and fell and earned a displaced fracture of the fibula. I won’t post a picture...

    Plots for Turkey

In 2016, when I bought my property, we didn’t have any food plots and didn’t see or hear any turkeys. My food plots more or less follow the LC cereal grain mix with some small clover plots. I watched a flock of 25 turkeys feeding through one of my plots during deer firearms season this year. I...

A gun to fill in the gaps...

I like the idea of filling in the gap. Truth be told what you have will cover things pretty well. I spent many years on the quest to fill all the gaps. Currently I have .223, .243, 6.5 x 55, 7mm Rem. Mag, .308, .338 Federal, .375 H&H, 45/70, .458 Win Mag. No, I don‘t need them all, but I like...

    Christmas presents for your wife???

My method is simple and repeatable. Practical, Bling, Practical, Bling. Practical means something fun that she likes or can use or wear to have fun. Bling is as the name implies - something sparkly or shiny. Birthdays and Christmas are practical. She gets something fun that she likes to do. She...

    What's for dinner?

I use a kamado Joe with hardwood lump charcoal and a chunk of pecan and two chunks of cherry wood. I like the fruit woods a lot for smoking beef and pork.
