    Wild cranberries anyone?

Nice, my son and I did a taste test of large cranberries and small cranberries, and preferred the flavor of the small: https://gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/species/vaccinium/macrocarpon/ https://gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/species/vaccinium/oxycoccos/

Aging, Hang Time and Preservation of the Harvest

I quarter in the field, put half a deer in 4 mil food grade bags. I got a lifetime supply from Uline. I used to put them in a 5 day cooler on ice for 7-10 days, but now I have a spare fridge. Little difference in the meat quality from fat doe to rutted out buck.

Apples, If you were to pick just 3

I haven't done much planting up there at all - I did plant an NY-35 (aka Bonkers), which grew great over the summer, then got killed back to the graft union over the winter. Alas! Kerr seems like be a great bet for up there. There's a wild one that does quite nicely and holds until the end of...

Apples, If you were to pick just 3

Good to hear Galarina actually drop in a good timeframe. I planted one from Blue Hill this year. Some sources make it sound like they don't drop at all - https://www.cyberfruit.info/apple/galarinadescription.asp When do they start dropping for you? In the first year it grew well, and showed...

    Mine still hanging

I planted Bonkers in 3B and it did great over the summer then appeared to get winter killed.

    Over wintering potted trees?

Last year I sprinkled a bunch of this all over them, then dumped wood chips all over everything. Voles didn't touch them, and no overwintering mortality, including on the half that I didn't protect at all for much of the winter and got hit with some subzero temperatures (before I took pity on...

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On at WhitetailCrabs

Hopefully he has some Dolgo rootstock for 2024! Used some 2 years ago, and I was very impressed.

    Dolgo versus dolgo seedlings

Definitely noticed that on the Dolgo rootstock I got from Blue Hill in '22. Some were pristine, others were hammered by CAR. (Was able to see it because it sure likes to throw off shoots below the graft union initially).

    Blue Hill Nursery Sale

Missed out on persimmons again! Got 2X Kerr (extremely impressed with their disease resistance), Chestnut, and Trailman. Last year I got a Turning Point, Galarina, RubyRush, and Road Kill. All except RubyRush very good growth and DR. Turning Point took forever to leaf out but has probably grown...

    Crabapple timeline

I have extremely heavy CAR pressure, and Kerr is pristine. Yates seems a little susceptible, but not to the extent that it will be dropping leaves or anything.

How long do your Camera batteries/solar last?

I've had a Spypoint running on AA lithium for nearly two years. Got a bunch of photos from it yesterday. The spot has decent cell service, and doesn't go into one of those windy day spasms like some of my other cameras get due to unfortunate placement.

    Deer preference on apples

I had deer aggressively singling out Goldrush on one of my multigraft trees. They were standing on their hind legs trying to get every last one, ignoring all the Northern Spy and Fireside apples that surrounded them.

Why not more love for seedling antovonka planted for deer?

I've read that they take a long time before they begin producing, but for those of us with bear problems who want sturdy trees before the bears start climbing up in them, that can be seen as an asset.

    Button Bush

Yes, very late to leaf out... but that didn't save them from the hard frost we got here a few days ago!

    Korean Pine!

I got some from Burnt Ridge Nursery and planted them near some white pines. Seem to be growing okay, but slowly. New York Botanical Garden has a few. Apparently most of the pine nuts you buy are from Korean Pine.
