    2024 tree prices

Would you mind sharing where you got the dolgo crabapple seedlings? I am going to be planting some next year.

    MDC shipping timeline

They definitely need to communicate better with people when choosing a shipping date. I know last year if you chose the first or second week in April (I forget which one), it would actually arrive a week early depending on how you interpreted when the first or second week of a .month starts. I...

Chance of freeze damage - pear vs persimmon

We have several pears that are between 5-10 years old that have never produced fruit. All are in the low-lying areas. About 1/4 mile away in the same valley there are several dozen wild pears from two varieties at least that produce pears every year. The only difference is that they are maybe...

Chance of freeze damage - pear vs persimmon

Seeing the success of your persimmons has definitely motivated me to get more serious about trying them on our farms. I think you are likely a higher hardiness zone than our properties, but do you have any persimmons in low-lying areas or are they all predominantly near ridgetops?

What should I plant on this field edge:

I would do nwsg mixed with some thicket forming shrubs. I'm a big fan of hazelnuts, wild plum, and elderberry if they grow well in your area. These would provide different types of browse, potentially other sources of food throughout the year, and would create some variable edge of cover.

What is this in my clover plot?

Looks like it could be a wild rhubarb? It looks a lot like the rhubarb I have coming up in my garden.

New blank canvas farm tour in Northern MO

As I was planting trees this past weekend, I kept having run-ins with these guys. I'm going to head back down and hopefully get my Dad on his first turkey in quite a few years. This would be the first turkey hunt on this farm. I think it sets up pretty nicely because you get the benefit of...

New blank canvas farm tour in Northern MO

Just a few updates for this farm. I have been working with NRCS for enrolling a few sections of the pasture into pollinator habitat through EQIP. This is the tentative plan over the next few years. Although we have been approved, I am still working with the local private lands biologist with...

Conspiracy theorys, where do you stand?

I think many of the folks with comments on here would like to think they have a healthy form of skepticism. Anyone who is actually serious about questioning the things around them would probably do better to first focus on understanding beliefs and where they come from. After all, if you can't...

    Verizon and Cuddelink

It seems like The majority of the time that people have issues getting images from cuddeback it is because they are trying to text them. Email is definitely the way to go.

Public Comment is Open for Transgenic Darling 58 American Chestnut

Doing that anyways... I'm excited about it from a plant diversity standpoint.

Public Comment is Open for Transgenic Darling 58 American Chestnut

Spicy. This whole thing has been a mess. All of us that are on the sidelines can probably do little more than grab a bag of popcorn, and of course plant some American chestnut seedlings just in case.

    Cages, weed mats and mulch

I buy a bundle every year for use with tree tubes. The last two years they have gone on clearance for $1.20/6ft stake. I think they're perfect for supporting the tubes. I also use them when marking out areas to spray or to plant.

    Cages, weed mats and mulch

I would just try calling the places you used before. All metal pricing has come down in the last year or so. Here it is for $107/roll of the 5X150' after the rebate...
