    Permanent Trail Camera Power Project

It look like the 10 NiMH batteries will last some what a good length of time with no solar charge, At 12.7 volts is 1.27 per cell that’s the range the NiMH will hold for about 80% of there charge then drop right of. Not like a alkaline . Your power pack will probably last indefinitely with the...

    Permanent Trail Camera Power Project

I assume no batteries in camera, do you plan on keeping a record of solar batteries power with just 10 batteries = 12volts will keep up on cloudy over cast days and through the nights . Your battery pack will fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts using NiMH that’s 1.2 to 1.4 volt per battery and you...

    Permanent Trail Camera Power Project

Nice and compact what are you using to protect the batteries from over charging from the 12v 1.5w solar panel and the regulated 12v to camera ( a buck converter )? Also you probably need a diode in there too ? I think you said before you use this with no battery in camera so with that said with...

    Permanent Trail Camera Power Project

Remember rechargeable NiMH batteries only put out 1.2 to 1.4 volts may not work in your camera, and make sure of the external power is work the right way for you , some cameras external power is parallel with internals and some of them work with external power is a higher voltage than internal...

I am sure you will be surprised, the test should be with out the camera.

I see you are using a voltage regulator you may want to consider a adjustable buck converter because the voltage regulator will use more power from batteries they heat up to about 140 degrees I think there are you tube videos on this. I see you also have a diode what kind is it and spec.

Cuddeback external battery and solar run times

Does your 3600 solar panel have one or two batteries packs ? I have two J2 cameras with a 3501 solar using diy three battery packs they been working great for over 650 days , from my experience the Cuddeback solar panels will work just fine with AA battery packs. northern lower Michigan

Cuddeback external battery and solar run times

I have read from other posts of people having that issue, I have one starting to do that a G camera with only 4 D cell but my battery day still continues to count at 57 days but the meta data says it is at 4914 mv ( 4.9 volts) so I expect it to go dead soon

    Permanent Trail Camera Power Project

What brand and type of blocking diode are you using , I am working with a solar panel to buck converter set at 9.2. Volts but at night I need a blocking diode to stop current from going back in to buck converter from my NiMH power pack

Amazon has boxes you might want to look at and also big box stores in the electrical department there usually gray plastic water tight I have two set up been working for over 650 days now Cuddeback 9v solar 3501 with 18 NiMH batteries , with lithium ion batteries rechargeable on solar need a...

Cuddeback external battery and solar run times

On the battery days you have to let the camera go dead it takes a couple of minutes after all batteries are removed how many days did you get from the 20AH batteries before this started to happen, ? A SLA battery will start to freeze in real cold weather and lose power if not set up with a solar...
