No Such Thing As No Spray Apple

I planted a Priscilla this winter because of you. So far it has had a slow start compared to the Yates and Enterprise I also planted this winter. The leaves are clean compared to my crabs that get some CAR. I plan to plant a Sundance if I can ever find one.

Chance of freeze damage - pear vs persimmon

It is a pain, especially in the heat of our summers! I try to water early in the morning, but hell it's still hot here at 6 am in July/August lol

Chance of freeze damage - pear vs persimmon

All of my trees are planted on pine ridges too. I ended up getting a 100 gallon water bladder from Banks Outdoors to put in the back of my UTV and it works well. It is pretty expensive, but it has definitely helped with our summer droughts. I've had it for 4-5 years and the bladder has held up...

Chance of freeze damage - pear vs persimmon

Persimmons are just starting to leaf out down here. I have some that won't leaf out until May. Pears are usually leafing out in March here.

Two topworked Callery Pears after one year

I figured that. I chose the scions with buds the least swelled. We shall see

Two topworked Callery Pears after one year

Ended up topworking another callery pear to olympic giant yesterday. Glad I did because the scion was starting to bud out. Our fridge compressor went out last week and I had to transfer everything to a cooler for a couple of days. I believe the temp change is what caused this. I did not realize...

Two topworked Callery Pears after one year

I wish I would have went ahead and added bracing as soon as my pear grafts took like this. I had one that broke during a windstorm last year. Thankfully I grafted 2 scions to a rootstock and 1 made it through the storm! The grafts grew over 6 foot in height in their first year, I'd say 1 is...

The Notorious Nativ Nurseries "Wild Deer Pear"

I had a few of their crabs to die as well, but it was only 2-3. I've had really good results with their plums (Chickasaw and Mexican), chestnuts and sawtooths. I plan to graft all pears and crabs. Was really disappointed with the pears compared to what they were advertising. Looking back, I...

    Buck bedding sites

Watch it, TreeDaddy! 😂 Long time dawg here! Coach Leach passing away hurt the football program worse than we thought would. Helluva guy too! I'm hoping the new HC can turn us around. Please tell me you're not a longhorn?!

The Notorious Nativ Nurseries "Wild Deer Pear"

I'm sure it is for people up north, but in the deep south late fall early winter is a perfect time to plant trees!

Anyone have any deer magnet persimmon scion?

I have a few Mexican plums from NN and they have done well for me!

    2023 Scion Exchange

I would first look on the ground and under the leaves around the tree for persimmon "caps". It could already be a female and has dropped all it's fruit already. I agree with Teeder. You should have other persimmon trees around your property and possibly some that are much smaller. Around here...

    November drop persimmon

Same, I have a few natives I would like to graft that scion too!

    November drop persimmon

Man that tree is loaded for this time of year! I have a few persimmons still holding a few in a hardwoods bottom, but nothing like yours!
