Grass ID

Tons of this stuff, appears to be a warm season grass of some sort? Very fine, it's every where and lodges heavily in the winter. Bottom photo shows how prevalent it is..

Little blue stem?

I was hoping that was the case Scott, it occurs both in areas I planted it, and another section where I didn't plant it at all. Could be in the native seedbank (I'm in MO) but I was suprised it was that prevalent in the areas I didn't plant it.. Just disked it and see what grew up as early successional cover.

It seemed to grow rather fast and and be quite prevalent so that's why I wasn't 100% certain. Its basically formed a mat everywhere after it lodged, as you can see from the bottom picture.

The seed heads look more like Big Blue but its only 18" or so tall everywhere. First year that the area was disked though..

Looks like crabgrass to me.
GREAT warm season forage, highly preferred by cattle, but IDK if deer use it or not.

I think the leaves are too fine (in the above pics) to be crabgrass. This (below) could be crabgrass (or KY Bluegrass?) however..

I wish I was better at ID'ing grasses..

Neither one of those pictures are little bluestem. It would remind you of broomsage except finer blades and stems.

Def not bluegrass. Seedhead all wrong for any of the Poa species.
I'm still voting for crabgrass.

That's why I'm lost as well, can't figure out with all the fine blades/stems.. Tons of it though! :emoji_thinking:

The seed heads look like crabgrass from the ID I found also. But Crabgrass is a lot thicker. This is all very fine.

I actually think now its Tall Dropseed. Also a native bunchgrass. Second pic in initial post matches this trait as well.
