Welder Thoughts?

The good thing about it...if it doesn't fit your needs...you can always add to it. I ought to take some pics of the job I'm gonna due to a pull behind spreader that will be an atv mounted spreader after some minor adjustments. I have this farm friend who seems to break stuff for me. A lot.

I don't have a friend like that, so I have to break things myself! I'd love to see your pics!

Well, the spreader worked better than expected. A little angle iron manipulation and it held the bike strong. I had the shop remake the bottom plate out of stainless. It's totally adjustable gate and should last a good long time...unless said friend has an oopsy.

Now, Jack...you have me creating a mobile welding table from some scraps, a metal push flat cart, and some misc metal i bought. Thanks for the push.

Here is what i am currently working on. Worked to get the cart level then the posts should be plum...or almost.

Not quite stacking dimes with the 6010, but it will work. I had an old pipe vise that I will weld some 2" square stock into the center bottom. That should fit nicely into the 2.5" square stock post that i will leave exposed thru the top of the table. I am also going to make the table height adjustable. I want to be able to shove it under the work bench when not in use.

Very nice work! You're doing better than I am! Good luck with your projects!

I've done a few more small projects and am slowly becoming more comfortable with the welder and welding in general. I still wouldn't weld anything my life depended on. We currently have a shared barn at the pine farm where I currently use the welder. We built a new barn on our retirement property with a small living space: https://habitat-talk.com/index.php?threads/new-barn.11326/ I've been dividing my free time between the pine farm and retirement property. I'm slowly setting up a shop at the retirement property. One of the things I hope to get soon there is a 12" dual bevel sliding miter saw, so I've been doing some research in to that lately. While I was doing that I stumbled on cold cut saws. At the pine farm, I'm currently using a cheap harbor freight abrasive saw for cutting metal. I then spend a lot of time with the grinder cleaning up the cuts. I have an old circular saw at the retirement property, so instead of buying the miter saw, I decided to buy an Evolution EVOSAW380: Metal Cutting Chop Saw With 14 in. Mild Steel Blade. It will replace the abrasive saw at the pine farm and I'll take the abrasive saw to the retirement property barn for any occasional metal cutting I may do there.

I purchased it directly from Evolution and it arrived today. I hope to set it up this weekend. If anyone has any experience with these, any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

Extremely loud but I would like to have one myself. I use Norton abrasive blades in my abrasive saw and they are way way better than most hardware store cutoff blades. So I’ve been pretty slow on upgrading to a chop saw. The ones I have been around where very loud.

Good point. Having hearing protection handy is a great suggestion.
