Bought a new farm

My wife and I live on our deer hunting property. It is so great to see the deer almost everyday and walk outside and be trimming apple trees or killing buckthorn or whatever other important things there are to be done or even just walking the dog on our land whenever the mood strikes us. It just never gets old. Am looking forward to how you set it all up.
I've always been 80 miles from my property. I cant wait to wake up there!

I want to add a great plaines or land pride drill to my tool set. I'm familiar with that from renting from the NRCS. Quest for you guys is how to you feel about the 3pt versions vs the pull type? I have a big enough tractor to pick up a heavy drill, but there are some slopes here that concern me. The 3pt is a lot easier to get in a tight spot and narrower. My driveway is 1.5-miles long and not real wide.

3 point is what we have. You just missed one for sale on here last week. Heck of a deal on it.

the 3 point allows you to back into weird corners of a food plot in the woods and plant from there. Also a 6' drill is truly 6' width so you don't have to worry about clearances with tires going thru gates.

If you're doing some big fields, you're ok with a pull behind, But we run our 3p606nt with a Deere 5603 and it does good work. We can plant small, weird shaped food plots with ease, not to mention navigate tight woods/logging lanes in the woods to get to interior plots.

I just looked up your tractor, pretty good size machine. I have a 4020 and am probably going to get something similar in size to yours, but probably red or orange. Green is $$$ lol

I’ve got a Massey 4707 that I’ve been very happy with. I got a lot of tractor for the money going Massey. When I compared specs it really came down to the Case or Massey for the specs I cared most about at the best price: 3 pt lift capacity, 3 pt lift height, weight, loader capacity, etc. The Kubota was a much more nimble tractor but the Case and Massey were better for heavy lifting.

I like my 3 point, for many of the reasons you mentioned. I run mine on a JD5400. As long as it's on the ground it's stable. You need to be careful when the drill is raised. When turning with it raised it can throw you around on a hill if it swings. As long as you know and plan for it, I think it can be overcome. I like the ease of transport, ease of turning it around, storage size, etc. Good luck, there was just one on here cheap!

Most of my hunting experience before buying my own little piece of land was In the Missouri Ozarks - Hills and Hollers we call it. You seem to have plenty of both with some great areas to put in some food plots. The deer and turkey will be all over that place, and plenty of squirrels too! You’ve got more oak trees and acorns down there than most people will ever see. I can’t wait to see what you do with it over the next few years. My property is in Crawford County right before the Phelps county line. I don’t know if your a religious man or not but you must feel truly blessed. What a beautiful piece of land!

I did alright on a deal on it. But this one is probably 15 years old... It gets the job done. Just had to put new tires on it this summer. Yeesh.

Congrats! Beautiful place

I’ve been looking at the masseys they do look like a capable high value machine.
