On the way home

I feel bad for you guys that live close to your land. You miss so much on a short commute.

This is my favorite road in the country. US 36 from Macon Mo to The Mississippi River. Two lanes, 70 mph and never any traffic.

Here's the Mississippi.

Drive a bit more and there is a cabelas in wheeling WV
It's tough to get a clear pic at 70+ mph

It's pretty there but I saw deliverance so I try not to stop.

In one spot you don't get out of this tunnel before another starts.

Cheat River, PA. Good rafting in early spring.

I can confirm it is the same in every state. One, "1" guy may actually be working while his coworkers watch.

For history buffs. No, Where Washington crossed on Christmas Eve is north of here and you can cast a good spinning reel from side to side.

Dang!

did ya happen to cross along 78 and see my handy work?

Nice pics. How long of a drive?

I chuckled when I seen the pic of the workers. Wonder how they determine who gets to lean on the mile marker sign and who leans up against the bucket?

I can't imagine going any further than the 3 1/2 hours I go right now.

No I turn south just past carlise PA and go through west Chester. It avoids the 476 mess.

Very often Ive driven straight through. Aftermarket 55 gallon diesel tank. If I stop once for fuel and to take a leak I can do it in 18 hours. But honestly in the last few years I fly to St. Louis and take a puddle jumper for $50 to a regional airport 35 minutes from my place. Whole trip takes less than 6 hours and is cheaper than driving.

Regional Airport parking is free. This is the first time my truck has been home in 18 months. Everyone who works at the small airport knows me. The pilot and I are on a first name basis.

I can't imagine going any further than the 3 1/2 hours I go right now.

Crazy has no limits. :D

Bill - Isn't it great to get back from US 36 and no traffic ......... to Pa. and Jersey roads ??? :D o_O Nothing like an accident or construction on the Turnpike or the Sure-Kill to make horses look really good.

I70 in western KS is the same way! Drove to Colorado a couple weeks ago on it. :) I80 in Nebraska sucks its so bad with traffic. You nailed the road worker thing!

My brother and used to drive the trip often, switching off driving. On the way home, when we hit the North East corridor we always said the same thing. "Welcome to the armpit of America".

This time I took the PA turnpike. Often I stay south from Wheeling and take 68 across Maryland. You avoid the mess a bit longer but when you get to Baltimore and have to take 95N it sucks. Especially in the summer.
