14 inch oak in 15 years

If a guy had several hundred acres of land, I think a Oak Savannah would be nice. You could have some scattered big oaks with NWSG and forbs growing in between them. Should be great deer habitat - especially if you mixed in a bunch of conifers here and there.

overcup and nuttall oaks reportedly do well in poorly drained clay bottom land

they are "on the list" for next year along with pretty much everything else that Missouri Dept of conservation offers.......

I love that place.........

I’ve tried Nuttall. They told me they would grow in Zone 6 but they looked dead last fall.

I haven't planted any pure overcup oaks. Yet nearly 70% of the Nuttall oaks planted came out of five foot tree tubes, at the end of their second growing season, at the Hillfarm in northern Kentucky.
