My only caution with landscape fabric is you must go back later and cut the fabric away from the tree or it will girdle them as they grow. I've used it and plastic. The problem with plastic is when deer step on it they poke holes in the plastic. Nothing is perfect......

I made the same mistake once when I had high deer density. Left it standing only to be untouched. I had so much volunteer corn the next spring I couldn’t plant beans.
Not everywhere but my deer are too stupid to eat it off the stalk. Mow that stand and they will come.
