How to Turn Old Hay Field Into Deer Habitat

That I’m not sure of. Maybe some of the southern guys will chime in. But don’t think killing the tree by squirting it is a good idea. At least on many species the tree will re-sprout many branches thickening the place up faster.

How to Turn Old Hay Field Into Deer Habitat

Don’t forget to take a chainsaw into the timber you have. You can make that bedding tomorrow. Search hinge cutting here for some of the smaller trees. If hinge cutting don’t make blockades. Knee high hinges make blockades. Shoulder high hinge cuts make bedding. Be careful hinge cutting it’s...

    Trailcam pics

Don't really have a strategy for it. I keep hunting because it's early November and one could show up anywhere anytime. I just don't let low sightings bum me out because it happens every year around Halloween. At least at my place it does every year without fail.

I'd say it's on in N. MO. I just kicked up a buck laying in the brush with a doe at 11:00 AM. 10 feet off the road at my gate. Good place to hide her from the other guys... Beginning of the bell curve IMO.

    Trailcam pics

My experience is that this time of year the does just plain old get tired of the little bucks bumping them so they change their routine. Food plots go from deer every evening before dark to no deer except a little buck looking to get lucky.

I think I'd rather spook a target buck after dark by it not knowing what I was and seeing strange movement over getting a nose full of me.

Went to take down a limb that fell in front of a camera on November 30. 3 days later they can still smell me. Every deer since that got close has this reaction. Guess I need a shower this week 😄

I brought a fawn right to my stand that way once. But don't try it with a mature buck. I had one turn inside out getting out of there once in daylight.

I had my best hunt with the Sony handy cam this afternoon that I've had in 2 years. EHD hit us hard last year. I planted corn for the first time in years. Mowed some of it 10 days ago. The does are coming for the corn and the bucks are coming for the does. 4 basket 10's, 2 basket 8's a couple...

I know it isn't but man that first pic could have been taken on my farm. I love the N. MO rolling hills.

    Titan Blinds

That thing looks airtight. My blinds built by the Amish guy up the road keep bugs out better than a red neck blind. My best purchase since installing box blinds. https://www.harborfreight.com/20v-cordless-3-12-gallon-wetdry-vacuum-tool-only-58310.html
