    Crabapple timeline

Dad planted the edges of the fields around the house years ago with fruit trees and sawtooths. The last year or two they have all be significantly producing and it's really been keeping deer checking them daily. It's about time to put up an archery stand so we can hunt them.

From a truck?!?! Too easy! A few years ago dad and I started a 10 tree planting in the woods. Lugging lime, dirt, trees, fertilizer, cages, weedmats, tools etc. was a chore! It was only 50-100 yards from the Ranger, but it was WORK. The follow year my dad's cousin opened a little more area and...

FYI: PA Woodland Resilience Enhancement Network

Do you know how far down the list you were for your county? I got an application acknowledgement email and then a wait list email too. The Lycoming County Forester didn't seem too worried since we were in the first 8 applicants for the county. He alluded to they're still figuring things out...

    Cuddelink L series Q & A

The default sensitivity on the Cuddelink cameras is lower than what you might expect. A simple change to the setting gets them much closer to other cameras.

    Cuddelink L series Q & A

I saw it. It would be nice if they explained what's part of the release. I still have a G series home. Hopefully the automatic firmware update is part of that release.

    Electric bike

I had the original electric Polaris Ranger. It was good for getting places quietly. I sold it two years ago and miss it for that purpose. I've been considering an e bike but I don't trust it on rocky trails in the dark. Winke has some sort of 4 wheels electric cart he rides around in. It's...

    Growing Chestnuts & Persimmons

I believe sulfur is generally what's used to lower pH. Make sure you're doing a real soil test, and not using one of the things they sell on Amazon for a soil test. You can find many places that will do a soil test for under $20. I use Penn State, which is around $10...

    Growing Chestnuts & Persimmons

Sink a tube(or tin can) into the dirt a few inches. Weed mat and possibly cage the tree.

That's why direct seeding can work better than potted.

    Growing Chestnuts & Persimmons

Be careful with potted trees. They can get root bound pretty quickly. Walmart is notorious for not watering the trees they sell AND letting the roots cook in the hot sun.

    Value of an LLC????

It probably depends on a number of factors. Do you have $10,000 or $10,000,000 in income/profit? It's probably going to cost you something to form the LLC and deal with it's separate taxes/structure. Are you going to save enough in taxes to justify the additional expenses? Only you really know...

    Growing Chestnuts & Persimmons

You can heat treat the seed nuts to avoid this as well. Warm water bath of 120 for 10 minutes. ( I think, from memory)

    Value of an LLC????

I agree. Having dealt with my late uncle's estate, I see how estate planning and taxes matters. Some of this varies state to state, so that's why I'm suggesting asking someone local, and bringing the financial data.

    Growing Chestnuts & Persimmons

How wet is the soil? What's the pH? Amend the soil? Do anything to help with weed competition? Back at my desk, to add more info. Chestnuts prefer a lower pH and drier sites. They do not like wet roots. Persimmons like a more neutral pH. I had some die in sites I planted that were too wet...
