Following this thread, I ended up buying a GardeProX50. They were on sale and at this point, I mostly run Spy Point, so thought a different camera may yield diff results. So I went through the set-up, formatted the SD card in the camera, new batteries etc. All I keep getting for pictures are the...
Given the lack of success this year we have a few projects in mind to help out next year. So, although the season isnt over, we will start tackling some projects / hunting this w/end.
- Just had camp built this year so need to continue cutting, splitting and stacking firewood (OMW to get a new...
We just started our journey, so my response was "any deer is good". Our hope is that we can manage / attract enough deer for the newer hunters to "see" deer while in the stand and for the hunters who have been doing it a couple years to be able to wait for a bigger buck. This being year 2 we...
Oakseeds,
Thanks for your response. I'll be buying some supplies this week to better protect them in hopes I can attain the same harvest(s) as I see in your pics.
All,
Thank you for all the responses. Odd part is I have 2 pear trees and another apple tree in the same field and none of the leaves are eaten. Very strange to me that it is just the one. No matter the culprit I'll need to get some better protection for my trees and keep whatever is eating it...
I bought a couple of these same trees from Lowes. I planted them this past spring. Can you tell me how long your trees took to produce fruit like that?
Can anyone offer their opinion on what might have happened to this apple tree please? Some type of caterpillar? Deer? Most of the leaves are gone at this point but it isn't dead. New leaves have actually grown since the last time I checked on it.
Haven’t been doing this very long but was pretty excited to accidentally find this one today. Almost threw a tree branch right on him. Quick grabbed the dog and left the area.
Well I went down to our place with every intention of planting. Tried loosening up some of the soil to get started and realized it wasn't meant to be! So, hopefully with the warmer weather it'll thaw a bit this week and I can get back down there. We did have the chainsaw running for a couple of...
Some of my trees of my trees are on their way. Our property is in zone 5A, CNY'ish region. Are you all saying that so long as the ground is workable, even with snow and such, I'm able to plant? And that, all things considered I'd be safe to do so?
I do see big box stores selling em already, so...
I’m thinking the little brown dot in the center denotes Silky … not the ROD I was hoping for. ?? After reading this thread I have some things to do … I have to plant this bunch in soil and … continue my hunt for ROD.
I went down to the local forest last month and clipped a handful of what I think is ROD. Brought them home and scored the bottoms of each clipping and placed them in an old milk jug that has about 3-4" of water. After about 3 weeks the clippings started to produce leaves so I'm thinking my...
We just had a logger come in and take a bunch of trees - Hard/soft maple, ash, cherry and most importantly hemlock. Getting some of the hemlock out was our biggest goal so we could try and get sunlight on the ground. He didn't take quite as much as we had hoped, nor did he clear/take any of the...
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! We plan to get started this week making the piles of brush as suggested. Whether pallets or limbs and smaller brush it sounds like we have a way ahead. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the rabbits find what we make and move in.
I do have a small stack of pallets ready to go for this and have a ready supply of more when the time comes. I do like your idea Ben about the stump and brush piles as well. I'll probably do a mix of both since stumps and brush are readily available. Thank you for the responses.
Thanks everyone for your responses. We are working on improving our habitat for deer so like Native Hunter mentioned, hopefully we start seeing an increase in rabbits as well. Once we start getting the cover, I plan to use a trick I saw WHS use and pile up pallets at certain spots across our...
We are wanting to increase our rabbit population. By that I mean, actually have rabbits on our land. We have owned it for a year at this point and I've only seen actual tracks once or twice. That was last winter when there was snow on the ground. I have not seen any rabbits since then. I know...
Hey everyone! I’m the new guy … here and in owning land. We (myself, my brother and a nephew) purchased just under 70 acres in Central NY this past spring. As a matter a fact I think I walked the property the day after Christmas last year. We looked for over 2 years and this one seemed to fit...
