The "Kentucky Nature Lands Trust" is slowly buying the properties that run the back side of my property. Since they don't allow development, hunting, etc on their "preserves", I'm allowing them to act as a sanctuary, while I pump up my food options.
We've bought a few private party/small distributor and more recently from construction office rental yards. Pac-van, Modspace, etc. They tend to have "new" single trip units and some more beat up units. It all depends on how nice of a container you want, and what youd like to spend.
As soon as I catch up on some other projects I want to put up an entrance sign. I've been thinking "Broke Beeches Hollers", Due to a large number of large broken beech trees in each of our hollers.
My mother in law has a couple persimmon trees that have started dropping, and still has a decent amount of fruit hanging. I'm liking how it seems to coincide with Kentucky's rifle season, so I'm looking to graft from these trees, and maybe sprout some from seeds. Would it be advisable to bench...
I just realized I may have a few still screwed in an old dogwood tree at my grandparents place. I probably put them in 15 years ago. But no. I dont use them anymore.
That is my biggest fear on quick release rings and has prevented me from putting them on a couple rifles. I wonder if a dab of one of the weaker loctites would be a good little bit of insurance
I've seen old outdoor/marine carpet used, but I don't like how it holds water and will freeze. My number one would be raised expanded metal, or a serrated bar grating tread. Neither are super cheap. If you have an air stapler, get some of the longest STAINLESS staples you can find and turn your...
I tend to just use a roll of tie wire and bar pliers, since I have them in my work bag anyway
The first ones of those our company bought were red colored and soon were named after a certain part of a male dogs anatomy.
My dad has a persimmon tree at his place we've taken to calling "Bobby with an I" after the old song. It never had a persimmon on it since be bought the place 35 years ago, it also has all male flowers from the ones we've check. But last year and then this year its dropped a double handful of...
So far we've been good on A36 1/4", 3/8, 1/2 in 8ft by 20fts. 304/304L has been about 2-3 weeks out though on each of our orders. Man power is whats killing me, I've have 4 slide gates to put in at a coal prep plant in WV, was due in at Feb and I haven't had enough ironworkers free to get one...
The last couple weeks I've had a mess of free trees dropped in my lap and some others show up so I've been working harder than an ugly stripper:
Apple root stocks
Persimmon
Shag Bark Hickory
Hazel Nut
White Oak
Pin Oak
Paw Paw
Black Walnut
Chickasaw Plum
Chinese Chestnut
Elderberry
Black Cheery...
I'm definitely planning to get a few bare roots and container trees as well. There's a nice little nursery a few counties north in Jackson county that I plan to hit up. What has me really interested in grafting is a few local trees that have good drop times and have been no spray since ~40's and...
