I'm in zone 6 and I've had horrible results with Liberty trees from lowes. Out of 4 planted 3 years ago, 2 died and the other 2 haven't grown at all. They just seem sick.
I have had good results with Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Winesap from Lowes planted the same year.
Gambel Oak, Bear Oak and I think there's one called a California Scrub Oak. Those are some one the ones I've seen so far.

I grew them to plant between me and my neighbor. Didn't want anything to really attract the deer to the property line and tempt the neighbors. Had a few left over so I figured I would see how they would work as rootstock for the pear trees I already have.
