Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

It's just an acre or 2 of cedars, but another 7a of different hardwood and softwood trees on one farm. On the home farm, it's 40a of elm trees and smaller cedars I need to clean up. Probably over 1000 elm trees but they are 2-4" max trunk size.

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

Appreciate your feedback. My current trailer has brakes on all 4 hubs, but only 3500lb axles and the trailer weighs 1600lbs. It's also a tilt trailer. With a 7k lb machine, I'd be over the axle limits by 1600 lbs. Not sure that over weight wouldn't ruin the axles. Maybe someone on here has more...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

This is an appropriate post for my situation. The truck I bought is a 2020 Tundra. It does have the tow package and integrated trailer brake controller. I'd buy the equalizer hitch and a trailer with brakes on all 4 tires. Is this the setup you had ? How far did you have to trailer and at what...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I think I'll try to stay under the 75hp as suggestion by SD because of DEF and weight. I thought about a smaller unit (75hp or less) that I could pull without buying a new truck and trailer because I just bought my truck last September. As far as I need to go, I could likely buy a 75hp unit and...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

Great input and has me re-thinking my decision some. The points you bring up - maint, cost were the main reasons I initially leaned wheeled. Add in the travel aspect and I'm re-assessing it. Although as a mentioned, I could hire the travel need as it would be but 2x a year. I was talking to a...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

That thought has crossed my mind. There is a guy nearby that will haul tractors for some distance for a price, so he is an option. Probably option #1. I have 10a I want to clear on a farm that's 10 miles away. I can leave it there a week or 2 as no one will bother it. Thx for the suggestions.

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

So, what am I looking for in the undercarriage? I recently learned the difference between a decent sprocket, and a worn out sprocket, if that tells you how little I know.....

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

Ok, appreciate that feedback. I do drive my tractor over to another farm, takes about 35 minutes but I don't enjoy it much for sure. It is about the same time it'd take for me to hook up the trailer, load and tie the tractor down, and drive the truck and trailer over there, then unload...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I've been talking with a number of folks over the past few days and I'm pretty convinced I need to be into a tracked machine for a skid loader. One part of the decision made. The next decision I have to make is the size to buy. The last decision will be which mfg.... Case, Deere and Kubota are...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

Interesting - I looked at renting a skidsteer for a week and a month and was at a price point where I thought I could buy a wheeled unit and keep it for other jobs... I guess for 10k, I'd probably end up feeling the same way. That's the point I thought, well even if it's slower, but would do the...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I wish I could see one in action. Is a hyd thumb pretty much a necessity when using it for tree removal?

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I plan to buy a puller but not a shear was my original thinking for removal of trees. I did know the lower branch on the cedars to not get regrowth, but I also have a lot of other types of trees I didn't want to shear, but to pull so I didn't get regrowth. Anything and everything that grows in...

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

Another question is how often did you get stuck with your wheeled SS? I'm usually working alone so if I get stuck, I'm kinda SOL.....

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I have a fair number of trees the size in the picture above, mostly smaller though some larger. Another poster mention a shear, I don't plan to shear as I don't want to have to go back and spray. What kind of work did your older wheeled SS do? Was it hi-flow? Do I need hi-flow for a brush cutter?

Am I going to regret buying Skidsteer ?

I'm sure somewhere this has been debated before but I couldn't find a thread on it. I'm considering purchasing a SS for the main purpose of pulling trees. At some point I'll also get a mower for it, but have a tractor and brush hog that works just fine for now. My ground is 5-9% slopes, and...

    Harbor freight

I have a story too. I bought a hign impact Pittsburg socket set from HF probably 20 years ago. Recently while working on my wife's 4runner, I split the 19mm socket down the side. There's lifetime warranty on them so I got online and HF said I had to get a RMA number from them to return an item...

Anyone pull the axle on a King Kutter tow behind spreader

I appreciate your response. I'll be giving it a go in a few days and wanted someone else's take on it. I'm sure it could use a complete overhaul at this point. Thanks

Anyone pull the axle on a King Kutter tow behind spreader

I want to pull the drive axle on my tow behind spreader and clean and replace all the grease in it. Is there a way to pull it and clean it up? It was used for spreading sand, then ag lime. Sometimes when I use it the drive wheel locks up and just skids as opposed to turning the spreader disc...
