    Question on arrow deflection

it did break the rib and then road up along it into the spine. It was not a high hit but pretty much dead center in the chest cavity. After reading the post above from Yoderjac, I think he is spot on with one blade opening/catching and it causing it to deflect.

    Question on arrow deflection

I like to try broadheads and have shot many different heads through the years. I have been less than impressed with penetration of the expandables. Which led me to try the hybrid version of the Muzzy and this is where it gets weird. My kid shoots FMJ's 28" at 67" with a 28 inch draw and...

Opinion: Can food plots outdraw corn piles?

Below is a link to an article that I found interesting. I have land that butts up to public and therefore receives lots of baiting. My 3 acres of standing soybeans each year really helps negate the baiting effect and I can tell you I planted other crops such as rye, oats, brassicas and clover...

How much acreage needed for soybeans?

you bet baiting is all over. However I have seen what having consistent hidden food sources in this case soybeans do and I think it evens out what a pile of corn has to offer. My numbers have improved each year and I am surrounded by public land. I love the magic of soybeans.

How much acreage needed for soybeans?

I am in northern Wisconsin and have 2.5 acre plot that does well each and every year planted with beans. I use early maturing ag beans and I overseed with rye and brassicas to help but have never been eaten to the ground, produces pods and is the staple of my 80 acres. I plant at 75 pounds per...

    Property purchase Review-WI

Hey Spud. Anyway you slice it for that piece, 3 k an acre is high. But to each his own if someone wants to pay that for land that is logged, has Sandy soil and needs work. Go for it

    Property purchase Review-WI

Yes 3 k per acre is high even 2500 for raw undeveloped land. I bought my 3000 square foot house on 80 acres in Western wisc for about the same price.

    Wi youth hunt

I took it in for a European mount instead. Should look good when done.

    Wi youth hunt

Two bucks in 7 days for this kid. He wants me to do a shoulder mount but I just spent 1100 on his bear. This is the end result of habitat work. 5 years ago this property was desert. Lots of hinge cutting, trail making , pond digging and a 3 acre soybean plot anchor has brought us here.

    I stand corrected.

I've never been a fan of cross bows but must admit I was wrong. My son practiced all summer with his mission craze only to pull a muscle in his shoulder the day before season. He could not pull his bow back and could not hide his disappointed look but I remembered that his grandpa had a...

Any merit to laying off big does?

The reason I ask is I've been on my place for three years now. 80 acres with a 50-50 mix of oak ridges and popple/maple surrounded by ag. first year was like a wildlife refuge and I shot two magnum does and a 9. Last year with no food plots and no acorns my woods we're pretty empty. This...

Any merit to laying off big does?

I have been reading more and more about laying off the older does and shooting year and a half does instead. The theory is it keeps the group together which in turn draws in the bucks later. Opinions?

    First day jitters

He saw 7 and got busted by an 8 pointer. He was pretty wide eyed walking out of the woods and had a great first sit. Dad sat over a new pond we dug this spring and with the hot weather it was a great place to be. Shot a doe after a whopping 35 minute sit. The only problem with early...

    First day jitters

So I dropped my kid off for his first solo hunt. Felt like dropping him off for kindergarten all over again. Sitting back in the house pacing waiting for sunset to go get him.

    Oooops

Looks like winter rye to me. Red tint on stem equals rye

    What to do

Update.... Both plots are doing well and setting pods. I'm surrounded by ag and that's keeping the pressure off. I overseeded both last week with rye, oats, radishes and clover but so far so good. Browse pressure is minimal at best.

    Excellent documentary

I started watching it and it captured me as all things about the UP do. The thing people do not understand is that deer camp is about legacy, memories, family and fun. To see these camps be destroyed makes little sense to me.
