    Wandering at the hang out

Looking forward to seeing your land journey. I like seeing all properties but I like the smaller ones as I can relate!

    Realizing A Dream

Natty, I think you hit it perfect...you already mow the thing and chop up the weeds etc. There was a long post on "another site" that talked about a total no till operation where the seeds were spread and then run over with a brush hog to just the chaff to hold moisture and that guy got great...

    Realizing A Dream

Why is your MIL so against a plot? Its not like you are ruining the old field. As soon as you stop it will grow right back up

    Realizing A Dream

Head out there after the snow melts and do a little frost seeding. "Honestly, I have no idea where all that clover came from!!!"

    My "SmallChunk"

Looking forward to seeing what you are doing. I own 30 acres which I also live on so that cuts it back even further. I love seeing the threads of other small properties. They are in the process of logging the large area two properties away from me (they own a couple hundred acres) so Im betting...

    Realizing A Dream

I usually keep my "front" row and "back" row as that stuff but have done it separately as well. Kind of depends on how much you think you will need for a given season.

    Realizing A Dream

Congrats on the Land Natty and great work your are doing. I have some cutting on mine that Im dreading as well due to the proximity to some apples. Once it goes, theres not stopping it!!! You mentioned the poplar. Its not good primary wood but I use mine for "shoulder" wood in the fall when...

    Sick of winter already!

Do you even have any snow down there? I went to Enosburg last week and they had NO snow there. I still have barely a bare spot showing at my place even after the warm up and rain we got!

A Visit from Yogi...........or maybe Boo Boo

From the looks of the older scars in that pic, this tree is a frequent victim!

    Dipper rotation

Funny you show rolling that clover down to control it. A few years back I had a very small clover plot and expanded it a bit. When the excavator came to stump the new area, he had to drive over a part of my current area. I was concerned that it would kill the area where the tracks drove over it...

    Eye Bolt Trail Cam Mount

It was LickCreek that posted the original plans on another site and I still have them here looking at them. It too was a 1/4 - 20 eye bolt and I bought everything directly from his list.

    Eye Bolt Trail Cam Mount

Thats strange because I bought the size and when I went to screw them in, they were loose I took the actual camera to the store and the guy tried all kinds of sizes metric and US and nothing would fit properly. It was awhile back so I dont remember the exact details but I still have the 4 I made...

    Eye Bolt Trail Cam Mount

I made some of these thinking that all cam mounting holes were the same...they arent!! I have some of the original Moultrie M80s and they have some off the wall proprietary thread. I even brought the cam to different hardware stores and no one could match it for me!!!

    First total failure....

The only thing I dont generally repeat is brassica. I do a couple years and then rotate.

    First total failure....

MoBuck, yes, they were old plots that had more weeds than clover so I redid them along with nurse crops. NH Mountains, If I hadnt already had successful clover in those spots Id give it some time and see but this is just totally unusual!

    First total failure....

My local Ag store had bulk Imperial Whitetail at great prices compared to the pre-packaged stuff. Im now wondering why the great prices!! I wondered if the rye/oats were on the heavy side in the fall and crowded the clover out but like I said, I did it the same as past years so Im at a loss as...

    First total failure....

Ive been planting stuff in my small plots for years. Ive always had decent success...... Last fall I reworked half of my plots and planted clover with a cover of winter rye and oats, just as I have done in the past. My area is a couple weeks behind in growing season so I always give it a...

    Apple/ pear fencing $$$

Yeah, Ive been signed up and lurking soon after it became a reality. Just haven't had the opportunity to give any input up until now. I use the 4' and found out the first year that I had major moose issues. I use T posts and raise the fencing up just high enough that the moose cant reach over...

    Apple/ pear fencing $$$

I use the welded wire fence on mine and use about 16.5' per tree. Its fine for the initial size of the trees but they soon grow out of it when tying down the branches for the right angles.
