You just described every issue I have thought about with dealing with a piece like this. I have several pieces of burls that I want to start working with. Going to have to study then to see how best to cut them down.

    They continue to impress me

No, you paid a price the family member wanted. He decided to sell it at a price the family could not afford. Right now, Ag & Rec land is a sellers market. Buyers don't have a lot of choice and either pay the inflated prices or pass. I don't blame the seller or buyer, it's the way the free...

So What Happened to Ne Neighbor Thread?

I thought he had a legitimate issue until the "ok for me to trespass not okay for the neighbor to trespass" started. Then the personal insults to anyone who expressed a opinion showed a lack tact.

They actually prefer weedy & grassy areas as they drop their eggs over them and the eggs adhere to the plants. Golden Shiner Production

For bluegill spawning, circles of pea gravel around 2'-3' diameter in size in 1'-2' of water are good. You can take plastic garbage top lids, Drill holes so they sink, then fill with pea gravel.

    Fish structures

One of the things you should consider is putting structure in you shallow areas 1'-2' for bait fish like minnows to lay their eggs on. They prefer the underside of flat surfaces in grasses or weedy areas to protect the spawn. Wood pallets are a good choice.

Spirits in the Woods ... Anyone else experience these?

Here is an interesting marker in the woods. The Indians would bend and tie small tree saplings forming markers pointing to a trail or water. We have a number of these on our property. They are located around the creek bottoms.

Spirits in the Woods ... Anyone else experience these?

We as habitat managers and stewards of the land are only here for a short in terms of the life of our land. I am not one to believe in crazy theories, but I like to think that there are those that watch the woods. This is a siberian elm that one side of the tree split off in a wind storm about...

Herron Ridge … Trials, Tribulations, & Some Good Stuff

Well spring is finally arriving and temps are rising. Saw my first garter snake and a small bass dart out from under the pier on the pond. Also saw this gal out looking for a nesting site.

Over past 3 years material supply chain issues, cost of materials, inflation, etc. have all driven the price of goods up. Steel prices over 2021 to early 2022 saw dramatic increases. Buy it now, inflation expected to continue for another 12-18 months.

    Invasives to Natives

I think it will take ~2+ years of disking, spraying, and eliminating around 60-80% of that seed bank. Also surprised they would also you under the program to plant Box Elder (junk wood with no wildlife value in my opinion), blackberries, etc. I looked up the EQIP manual and the focus is on...

    Gly spray didn't work?

^^^ I agree the mix rate sounds low. I use 3 oz of Gly per gallon and it takes about 20-25 gallons for an acre. So ~60-75 oz of Gly per acre. I have also seen slow response this year with a day or two of warm weather and 5-6 of days of cold weather.
