That makes more sense now, not enough time in the day to keep up with everything I guess. I don't like the 3 buck deal at all, I want one good buck or nothing at all. That rule means with my wife & 4 kids that are eligible to hunt this fall we could kill 18 bucks. I would never allow that to...

Has anybody read thru this yet? How is eliminating all the DMU's down to four going to better manage the herd? Seems like I'm missing something???
We found 3 dead fawns so far in NE WI, I have pics of some pretty rough looking fawns and skinny bucks around my place in western WI, but nothing dead. I had 9 does & fawns in my plot by my house the other night and not one doe was starting to look like she was showing. I expect any day now that...
I cage my trees and will tie down branches to the cage or posts I used for the cage. Conduit works good to stake there leader. The rope I use I call it clothes line rope I get it at Menards a buck or 2 for 100 feet. I use clothes pins to train new shoots, I'm pretty sure I got that idea from...
Too much fertilizer will put on growth instead of fruit on older trees. I don't fertilize any tree I'm expecting apples on. However, I have pretty good soil. I only fertilize young trees in the spring.
I buried the liner around the berm and shoveled some dirt in the hole and even had a log laying in it. After the first year it was full of leaves and debris and I left it that way and still no use in the second year. I have well water so no chlorine. The biggest thing I can think of is the smell...
I tried a liner a few years ago and the deer would not go near it(I'm still not sure why?), on year three I pulled it and used Bentonite Clay it doesn't hold water like the liner did, but the deer hammer it now.
and the .243 is a .308 necked down to 6mm(.243). Winchester sure hit a home run with the .308 case and the .300 win mag as well. It's funny how rifle cases are like apple trees.
I grew up running wild on my Grandpa's farms in NE WI, I spent four years in the the Air Force where I learned how to climb poles and work on communications equipment and have worked for the phone company in some capacity ever since. I live in Vernon County, WI and work as an Engineer for a...
Honeycrisp can make you wait for them to bloom as in a few years longer for apples than other varieties. I have one I planted in 08 and haven't seen a blossom yet. I started looking into it and this can be typical for Honeycrisp after doing some digging. Maya can give you more detail than I can...
The only issue with .243 is when people buy poor ammo, Use a quality bullet and no problem. A cheap bullet in a larger caliber is more forgiving, a cheap 100 grain bullet and you are asking for problems or some guys will go lighter than 100 grains NOT a good idea.
The deer always look like a wreck this time of year. I do however have a few older bucks and some fawns that are skinner than I would like. A lot of ribs showing, the does all seem to look pretty healthy.
One more thing on ammo, if you don't hand load and decide on .243. 100 grain Nolser Partitions are hard to beat. IMO Nolser Partitions are hard to beat in any rifle if it will shoot it accurately. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
