Thanks for the replies guys. Honestly Native, I have heard of people planting these from Nativ Nursery and I have heard of them being utilised by deer. I will monitor the drop time this year and see how they work out. I will be planting persimmon and some late drop crabapples in some very remote...
I posted this on the other forum but recently I discovered a fruiting wild pear tree on my families farm. Unfortunately it not in one of my hunting areas but along the driveway into the old homestead.
What are your guys experience with them? Some people tell me their deer and wildlife love them...
I have one of these that I made myself. We use it to overseed cover crops into standing corn. Where it really shines though is planting millet for ducks. We plant on mudflats that u will sink up to your crotch in. We have one guy run the mud motor on the boat while another guy blows seed out the...
This has to be the funniest post I've ever seen in these forums! I literally laughed so hard I almost peed. Internet gold right there.

I can't believe I missed this thread. It appears you have been busy the last 8 years. How big of farm are you working with? What county are you in in Western IL ( you don't have to share if you don't want to)? I live in Quincy in Adams county. Home farm is in Adams but I hunt a few places in...
I'm not sure if it is the beginning of this thread but Crimson's picture of his soil says it all. You should never have to remove any thatch. That will be your new top layer of soil. In the picture you can see how Crimson's soil has turned from nearly pure sand, into a nice rich looking topsoil...
I may be missing something but I don't see any rape in that pic. Rape is real leafy and looks more like cabbage than anything. Similar to turnip tops but usually a different shade of green with no bulb or tuber.

Sounds like a no-till situation. What do you have for equipment for plotting? If you are equipment poor like myself, I would study up on Crimson in camo 's throw and mow threads. Done correctly you can improve your soil quality while providing quality feed for your deer. I would also check into...
I really enjoy seeing people transform small parcels into whitetail havens. What kind of farms are around you? Do your neighbor's manage?

Thanks for the heads up on the shipment Wayne! You are correct, I must've fat fingered the 5. Between what I have collected and the nuts you are sending me, I will be trying multiple methods. I plan on direct seeding in both the fall and spring, and I will be growing a bunch in both rootmakers...
Quick update on the trees I started this post with. The owner tells me these trees are approximately 9-10 years old. He says they are Dunstans purchased from his friend who owns a local chestnut orchard. (Chestnut ridge of pike county il). The trees are just beginning to drop and man are they...
I like the airstrike idea! Possibly a nuclear strike may work. It is an uphill struggle in my area also. I'm to the point that I consider it a victory if it's still there but not spreading. I would love to try the outrider but 360.00 bucks for a medium size drink cup of chemical is not feasible...
Beautiful trees! I can only hope in a few years mine look like that. They look to be well cared for. I am not far from you and I've heard you mention Yates many times. I will be ordering some from Stark's for my next planting. Is there any other varieties for deer that you can't live without? I...
Looks great Jack, I am starting my chestnut project this coming winter/spring. I plan on using many of these techniques, especially the rootmakers.
Thanks
Scott
