The deer harvest in Iowa is 1/2 of what is was during the glory years around 2008 or so. So logic says the population is 1/2 of what it was then too.

I believe the original question the OP asked in this thread was basically: are the days of high potential bucks getting to 5 plus years of age on a somewhat consistent basis over. And to that I say yes,unless you are are in a unique situation or they were missed by someone.

I'm not sure there is any official data or if it's just anecdotal. If the population is down signifcantly in Amana, like much of the state, it could simply be too much hunting pressure on high potential bucks.

There is an example in Iowa where the buck quality actually went down after going to one buck. Don't hold me to the details, but the Amana Colonies is roughly 26,000 acres of restricted access hunting. Around 20 years ago it was changed from 2 bucks to one buck and the buck quality has gone...

In short, high grading and EHD has really hurt areas in Southern Iowa. High grading is the reason in my little world of Missouri.

What has really hurt my area is there are guys that used to shoot the first 120-130 are now passing them waiting for a big one, which are often 3 or 4 year old high potential bucks. I long for the days when my neighbors tagged out by 9 am on opening day......and for the days before crossbows!

I believe it in MO. Heck, there are farms in Southern Iowa that kicked out mega giants back in the day that now struggle to get them past 160.

I've noticed a real lack of use with Enlist beans. We planted some in a 1/2 acre plot so we could spray Liberty to clean up marestail and there were still pods in the spring.

Some Hy-Vee locations and Scheel's in Eden Prairie removed self checkouts in the great state of Minnesota. Seems too many people "forgot" to scan their items.
