    Politics-I'm out

I cannot abide by the politics that have taken over this forum. There are several good people on this forum and I will say "thank you" to them for the camaraderie and information over the years. @Bill , feel free to delete my account. Thanks.

    Barbed wire fence

A good barbed wire fence is ridiculously expensive to have built around here. Since your ground sounds open and not rocky, you could build it yourself. It is a ton of work, especially by yourself. Catscratch had a lot of great info. Absolutely wear safety glasses. That coiled wire springs back...

    Catscratch House and Habitat build

Get rid of those beavers before they start tunneling into the dike. They nearly destroyed my neighbors large pond with their tunnels.

    What's for dinner?

Great, another thing to try 😄

    Catscratch wood carving

Sounds sort of like eastern red cedar. It starts off a purple and goes brown in the light.

    What's for dinner?

No kidding. It's also on my list now.

    Catscratch wood carving

Cool idea. A lucky charm for a big buck

    Catscratch wood carving

Agreed. It probably would look better as a wall hanging, but not sure yet. Was going to do a long diagonal cut of hedge for a pedestal, but didn't think the wood color would work.

    Catscratch wood carving

So, if you follow the Catscratch Land Tour thread you probably already saw his driftwood duck carving. I mentioned that it was really cool and looked similar to a 33,000 year old mammoth carving that had been in the news. Imagine my surprise when it showed up in the mail a few weeks later...

    Firewood?

That Oregon sharpener looks like it works very well. I'm pretty good with a file, but it takes me a long time and the results vary. If it'll sharpen a chain after cutting old hedge, I'm sold 🙂

    Blue Hill Nursery Sale

Wow, those are doing great! Only one of mine from 2021 had fruit for the first time (Road Kill). None of the 2022's had fruit yet either. I'm thinking next year should have quite a few first timers. I pruned mine probably harder than I should have, so maybe that's the difference.

    Would You Shoot This Deer?

How old is that deer? He looks like he has a bit of a gut and in the other pic he's really high in the back end like an older buck. I'm not used to looking at summer coat bucks, especially in the south areas, so curious if he is older?

Am I the only land mgr without a SxS

I started with an ATV and added the SXS a few years later. Still have both, but the ATV has been relegated to driveway spraying around the house with a little spray tank. A half day spraying pasture with the ATV would wear my ass out trying to turn with one hand and holding a wand in the other...

    Tick Talk

Walked about 20 yards into some thick stuff to check out a paw paw grove and had a dozen or so tiny ticks on me. Ridiculous. Luckily I had on permethrin soaked clothes. Later, there were two that had attached under my shirt, but they were dead.

    6.5 creedmore?

You might want to take a look at this thread about the documented success of the 223 on game. It's an eye opener. https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/223-for-bear-mountain-goat-deer-elk-and-moose.130488/

    New Tractor

Nice tractor. Don't worry about adding rear remotes, as it's really easy to do yourself. It took an hour or so to do my old 4330. The engineering was excellent and everything I thought was going to be difficult was really easy. Most bolts used nutplates on the backside instead of regular nuts...

    Rain

.75 at the house last night, and we really needed it. We've been missing all the recent rains and even last night about a mile away got 1.75. My farm is 12 miles away and the pasture looks great and the ponds are overflowing. Sure is nice not having to water the new apple and persimmon trees at...

    Rain

Nice! It petered out as it got here. We did get about .20.

    Cleaning and freezing catfish?

We hit the mother load of catfish today. We were casting a slip bobber with a minnow into shallow water next to cattails, and as soon as it hit the water, the bobber would go down. It was crazy fast. We didn't keep any and most were small; but some were eating size of maybe 2 lbs. We were after...

    Keep gravel drive weed free

Nothing too fancy here. Boom spray with gly 3 or 4 times a year. Spot spray with gly or 24d if needed. I figure between vehicle traffic, blading and the mower throwing seeds into the gravel, the soil will be disturbed and the weeds are going to come back. I'm not risking sterilizing the soil...
