    Persimmons help please

I had good luck by harvesting the fruits or seed, mixing with water, and smashing the concoction all together and straining the pulp and water multiple times in a five gallon bucket. Once you end up with sunken seeds, your good. After that you can spread them by hand, direct seed in tubes...

    Anyone tried sequin?

I have a few burrs this year but only a couple. I've never heard of them before the wildlife group started selling them in 2012 so mine aren't but two years old. They do love root maker pots though. Most that I got this year were 1-2 feet but few I got were really small so I've been babying...

    Anyone tried sequin?

They quit shipping once the trees are no longer dormant. You can place an order for next winter through the wildlife group. You could call and see if they have any more potted plants.

Those are the Chinese chinquapin or sequin. Almost all my allegheny chinquapin have died mysteriously. I think it must be blight. I've also been planting DCO. Here is a picture of one of mine in its third year. I beleive these are the makings of acorns.

Some of my grafts have really kicked off now. Let me see if I can load the pictures. Some are already trying to bloom. I'm gonna pinch them but almost all of these are looking great. I've gotten about 30% survival so far.

    Concordia oaks????

I had the same problem with allegenny. They would come up, grow great, then just die. I'm trying the Chinese chinquapin instead now. I'm inter planting them with Chinese and dunstan chestnuts.

    Persimmon grafts. How long?

I did a bunch last year but they all failed because I harvested the scions too late (after bud swell) and grafted to still dormant rootstock. This was my first year that I beleive I got it right. We are experiencing 90 degree temps now so I figured if they were gonna break dormancy it would be...

    Squirrels planted my dunstans

Funny how things work out. I ordered a good bit of dunstan seed this year. I planted 100 or so in 1 gallon root makers, 3 gallon old fruit tree pots, and 3 18 cell root maker trays. I had a lot so I luckily saved a good bit too. Well they were doing great until the squirrel found them and...

    Persimmon grafts. How long?

I had some really good looking scion wood from multiple trees and bark grafted them to natural rootstock about a week and a half after bud break. The bark peeled easily and sap covered the top of the rootstock. That was two weeks ago an still no green buds. They may have swollen but if so...

    Persimmon grafts. How long?

I did some bark grafting on my persimmon trees about two weeks ago. I had good heathy scions and bark grafted them once the trees had put on new growth. After two weeks still no green buds. The sap was flowing well and the bark piled back easily. How long does it normally take to see bud...

    Only one variety

I have a couple Korean giants, a couple Shinko, Galloway, orient, and a few other varieties but the keiffers seem to drop during the season , be very disease resistant, produce well, and just generally grow well down here. I have good growth out of others but it's doing the best so far.
