I got my seed from a reputable dealer in this area and i have used it before with no problems so.... hard to say what is going on. The weeds made use of all the pot ash and nitrogen i put on. They are breaking records as far as growth goes.
Be careful when using straight urea 46-0-0. If your plants are wet when you put it on...it will burn them and possible kill them. I also had one plot of brassica that was doing well and suddenly went the other way. That was on newly broken ground also. Plants started turning purple at first and...
Used a roller for a few years and had a few times where heavy rain right after seeding would have alot of run-off. Now i use a cultipacker. It leaves dimples and ridges so i get less run-off. Did some fall plots of grain and the cultipacker put the seed in rows so when it germinated it looks...
Planted some with rye, wheat, and oats a couple of weeks ago. They are about 2 to 3" high now and so far no browsing. For the price of them you cant go wrong.

I have two plots of beans that are currently getting wiped out by the deer. I am going to reseed with rye and oats. Sounds like sunflowers are going in there too. Any special fertilizer for sunflowers?
I am going to see if i can find some bagged stuff to put on there. I know i can get bulk from my co-op. Suppose to start raining to morrow afternoon so if i could get it on before the rain it would be perfect. I also have rye to combine so that has to come first. Not enough time in a day...
Here are some pics. looks like alot of them are repeats. This plot was fine two days ago. The soil is pretty sandy and we have been getting some good rains (1/2 to an 1") each time so maybe all the N leached through already. I have 2 other plots of this stuff planted at...
