I’ve actually burned 3 different times this season. I burned in March, late May and last weekend (mid July). I’m planning to burn a few spots (heavy woody content areas) in September as a test to see what the results are like. It will probe about 5 acres total.

I’m very pleased with body size and antler growth this year. I’ve done about 20 acres of old field/early succession habitat work that is full of natives. I still have another 20 acres to do.

I’m going to post a few pictures of some deer from last year and then what I believe to be the same deer this year. Last year velvet was still on the horns September 15th. I’m thinking we still have 30 days of growth left in most of these deer.
You are correct. I got my information twisted. Burning in September sets back woody components and releases legumes.
