    Tracking Light

Another Coleman lantern guy here. Although I trained my current lab to blood trail and that is hands down the best tracking tool I have now. She goes with me on nearly every hunt and stays in the crate in the back of the truck. If it is just the two of us, I leave the Coleman lantern in the...

    Crimson and arrow leaf reseed?

I would go ahead and put a full rate of Arrowleaf down this year then. One thing I really like about Arrowleaf is it fills a gap between my spring plots fading and my summer plots getting going good. That gap exists largely because I don't like to plant during turkey season so my summer forage...

    Brassicas going in

Bare with me here as I try out posting photos on the new site. This is a long skinny 7 acre field I have been working the LC Mix rotation into over the last few years. Back in May I put a 25' strip of 2322 Sorghum around the left side of this field for a screen and also ran 3 strips longways...

    Crimson and arrow leaf reseed?

I use Crimson and Arrowleaf quite a bit in my mixes and my experience has been Crimson comes back without issue so long as you let it go to seed. My Arrowleaf gets hammered in May / early June and I really don't think it seeds out well. I made a larger exclusion cage one year trying to figure it...

Keep your own weather data for foodplots.

I have been using Farmlogs for a few years now and I love it. I do agree with what Jack is saying; however I will say I am also guilty of looking at the Farmlogs 10-year history and making some assumptions similar to what WTNUT is saying.

    Good Hand Spreader for Fertilizer?

I have a SOLO I dedicated to fertilizer duty. I took out the second volume control plate which helps a lot with the unit plugging up. I rinse it with Salt-off and hang it up in the shed until next time. It will hold about 20 pounds of fertilizer but works great for small jobs.

Best food plot for the south

I would second most everything Jack has already said. I will add that I have been following the LickCreek rotation pretty closely for the last 5 years with very good success in Zone 8A. I use Crimson and Arrowleaf clover with the cereal grain mix and where I want to establish a clover plot I mix...

    winter rye prices

I did talk with a guy at one of the local co-ops that explained the prices we have right now on rye are due to the flood last year as well as a lack of acres planted in 2014 in the southeast due to a price jump on peanuts. Seems it is more of a local issue due to weather the last 2 years so that...

    winter rye prices

So I just called to check on price for this fall and was quoted $30 for a 50# bag of abruzzi rye. I either need to buy a combine or start ordering rye from Wisconsin by the train load!!

    winter rye prices

The seed stores around here haven't gotten any in yet but last year cereal rye was outrageous. Looking back at my notes I paid $27 a bag for for 500#. Our NWTF chapter's seed program has wheat each year for $5-7 a bag so it that makes it hard to spend the extra money when most folks don't...
