Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

Glad you found what you are looking for and would never put you on a crow diet. That said, my farm is NOT in a good area having crappy water logged soil . Nonetheless would love to invite you over next time you are in La. and can guarantee we can top 140"

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

One last thought in particular to the idea that some areas naturally produce bigger bucks than others. Of course that is true. But when looked at relatively, I propose for example the hunting and quality of bucks in La. compared to what it used to be has improved dramatically. Is that true...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

Completely agree...it's the dirt! Everything starts there including human nutrition. However I've found on my historically absolutely crappy soil I've been able to compensate. It has only taken 50 yrs of intense habitat and deer mgt.

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

I also agree with this to a point. 40 acres in Livingston Parish is likelyy a bust The good news is there are many privately owned larger tracts and they are producing quantities and quality of bucks comparable anywhere. That said I do agree one may have to work a little harder to accomplish in...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

I agree. And I agree with the comment about Iowa farmers wiping out deer if allowed. There was a reference to the big picture. I think we can all agree different areas have different circumstances. My point is, where the ethics value the resource and when given the right tools with the right...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

My good friend Dr Harry Jacobson created the DMAP program based on the wisdom of Aldo Leopold understanding that giving private landowners flexibility in managing wildlife resources was the future of quality wildlife mgt. Where states have employed this program private landowners have the...

    Drone Laws

This is about the only thing I agree with here. Beyond that If someone wounds a deer on my farm { usually archery } and I can find it with my drone I'm sending in the rednecks with buckshot. If the deer is so buggered it cant get away he's gonna get shot. I care more for the deer than most...

Thanks to you both. I'll see what I can figure out. Actually I do have a YouTube channel with close to 8000 subscribers. " Farm and Ranch Life"Most of the bucks I post I have on the channel at one age or the other. Plus do habitat and farming for wildlife stuff.

    Drones in research

I'm still a novice but what I've seen is you find deer with thermal then switch to camera and you can count the ticks on their back. Points etc easy. Aging might have more to do with familiarity with a deer herd for specifics but if you are looking for young, middle age or old should be...

    Drones in research

I've done numerous helicopter surveys . While they are a blast after couple years deer get smart to it and can hide from the chopper when you think a rabbit couldn't hide. Agree , I think drone surveys will take over the census business.
