Who's working in the woods this weekend?

Will be out again tomorrow. Tsi and bringing some browse down to the ground. Just amazing how quick the critters find the browse. Been working every Sunday for the past month, deer are usually on the tops within 2-3 hrs after I leave. Good way to to set up some great shed hunting as well

I have been working down in here the past couple days. Here is before I started cutting today.

Also got distracted as I was piling and took a big ass locust thorn to my left wrist. It’s sore and stiff. Just reenforces why I hate those damn trees. Got one in my knee last year that put me down for a couple days.

I sure envy all the work you guys are doing. I'm still about knee deep with snow and can't get out on my property. It's snowing right now. Blue Lake 2:11:18.JPG The only thing I can do is go out on the lake and pike fish.

Can't do much here either. Bet we have well over a foot on the ground, maybe 15". That's a lot for here anymore. So I'm staying productive by getting in shape for tree planting season with some twelve ounce curls. Sure wish I would've stuck with my plan to put a couple acres of PTT out for winter food this year. Deer really would've benefited from it. Going to start a big pot of deer chili shortly.

^^^ Catching any pike? Any pics? Awesome looking place.

Heck we are so dry I don’t know if I will burn my place this spring.

My son was home on leave this past weekend. Had to bring a fellow seaman with him who is from Florida. They wanted to do some shooting, rifle and trap. I am on a tight time this spring due to a trip to AZ to see my wife's parents so, I took advantage of some cheap labor and took them up to the land on Saturday. The deal was to get our hinge cutting done first and then play. We got some good bedding and blocking setup in about a 1\3 of the time it would have taken me alone. I manned the chain saw while they did all the heavy lifting. An excellent lunch consisting of frozen pizza and Arnold Palmer was served and the banging commenced there after. I took a light nap next to the wood stove. My son apparently failed to heed my warnings about the 300 mag and recoil and was justly rewarded with his first Weatherbyeye. The two young men got a good laugh out of it and I'm sure some ribbing was handed out when he returned to his ship(dorm) last evening. It was a great day in the woods.

Weather is not looking as nice as originally predicted, but I still plan on getting out both Saturday an Sunday to try an get a jump on a few projects.
Small wrench in the plan, just found out Turnpike Troubadours is playing close by tonight. Might be getting a bit of a late start tomorrow depending on how well the beverages flow.

On the agenda
- change out trail cam cards
- Drop off fencing an posts for apple plantings, cut to length now to save time later hopefully.
-Chainsaw work on old trees to make room for new, making the tuff choice cause 1 tree is in a killer stand location. But the tree is half dead an creaks when I crawl up into the stand. Know if I don't cut it down now, it would be to tempting not to sit in it again next fall.
-Take down the ground blind from last fall
- Shed hunt if time allows

Not a full slate for 2 days, but a good start.
Spring is coming fellas.

Getting ready to fire up the saw. Biologist came to get the grass drill and I showed him around. He is offering $175 an acre to clear some trees I was gonna take out anyway. Staying out of there till the contract is signed. Gonna go finish the area I worked on last weekend.

Sometimes things just work out in your favor. Universe is paying you forward for the work you do for all the critters.

Before and after still have a little cleanup to do.FD0FE9BE-8AC9-4FD2-9651-E1A0884F2FF5.jpeg6E02D408-F398-40B7-BEBD-A6C11606FF24.jpeg

Also took a locust thorn the chain threw right into my AC

And a little more work I did today just dropping locust trees into a pile.

Not in the woods at the moment, but got out for a bit during the whiteout. Got 2 tanks through the saw an a decent load of wood. 1 big narly dead tree, already seasoned, ha.

Figured I'd throw a couple logs on the fire an get to work on some housing for the orchards.

Sometimes things just happen to fall in your lap...
Was shooting the bull with a farmer when I made mention of looking for old woven wire.
Told me to look out back in his scrape heap an to keep anything that might be salvageable.
Only 4 ft or so tall, but has to be over 200ft in the roll. Will make good fence for getting shrubs started.
Kicker is there are 3 or 4 more rolls just like it, only managed one cause it barley fit in the back of pickup as is.
And its not junk woven wire either. Some type of sheep fencing by the looks of it.

So its looking I will spending some time this weekend getting this thing straightened out along with
cutting up the last two dead trees for firewood an to make room for this springs plantings.
And if time allows, take down an old wooden box blind that is no longer functional due to the growth of the trees around it.

I’ve been working a little this week. Clearing a new food plot area (1/5 of an acre) and prepping for a few fruit trees. Walked around a little yesterday and took a couple closeups of my food plots. Gotta love cereal rye. 0D96FEC1-DA48-4DBB-9A0B-537DE3D17DBB.jpegD4FB744E-C3F5-43A9-A4B6-3D6A2724E1D4.jpeg1C7DC8C9-74AC-4BEA-813D-156A1138A231.jpeg

I’ve got a new saw to break in. Got 3 big honey locusts that have been hunt up for a week. Was hoping the 40 mph south winds would bring them down but no such luck.

Someday - Nice sign in those plots. We like rye too. From the looks of those turds, they're fresh & look like they've been eating your green stuff. They don't look woody and "browse-filled".

Got about 6” of snow yesterday. I’ll get out today and do some more bedding area hinging while the ticks are hopefully at bay. They are bad already this year.
