Who are you?

Glad to be onboard...formally.

Thanks for posting! As a mod I'm always amazed at how much traffic we get daily from users and IP's that never post. Many for years. I think everyone has something
Western NY guy here.

Got serious about habitat in the early 2000s, have gone to some boot camps, used a consultant or two and read all the books and blogs a small minded guy with big book shelves could expose himself too.

Have lurked on here for a few years. Keeping the family farm ever evolving and even toy w a few small properties because..... why not? Have a couple kiddos that help a bit and a bunch of buddies through out the US that share the addiction.

Glad to be onboard...formally.

I'm from north east Wisconsin, have 25 acres I live on. Mostly farm land with about 5000 trees planted on a couple acres. I'm addicted to Apple trees and grafting. Also have a few properties in upper Michigan. I've lurked here for some time. Figured it was time to speak up on occasion.

Hi I'm Jay (BuckShot1) from NJ. My family has a 40 acre piece and a 100 acres I lease. Really enjoy working on the property! Looking forward to learning more from you guys!! Thanks!

Northbound and Buckshot1, Welcome to HT!

Hey all,

I'll re-introduce myself. My name is Matt. I used to be fairly active on the QDMA forums under the names "Younghunter" and then later "mdweber2". I left the whitetail world momentarily while I was working on my Masters in California, but now I'm back in the east and living in Charlottesville, VA.

My work and passion is in habitat improvement. I caught the habitat bug in high school while trying to improve my family's land in Wisconsin. After I graduated from college, I worked for three years for a land trust restoring wetlands, prairies, and oak savannas. Then, I spent 2 years in California studying river restoration and geomorphology, and now I work for an engineering company that specializes in river, wetland (and some coastal) restoration projects.

I'm happy to be surrounded by whitetails again. Though... so far, I've been getting my butt kicked by the Appalachians...

-Matt

I remeber you as younghunter from the QDMA forums. I probably checked out before you became mdweber. Welcome to HT, glad you found us. Though I feel sorry for a Wisconsin guy being stuck on the east coast. Stay away from interstate 95 northbound and you'll be ok :emoji_wink:

I live in SW AR. Worked for the Feds for 34 years as biologist/natural resources. Retired now. Own 350 acres in two parcels. Plant about 60 acres each year for deer, doves, and ducks. Looking forward to learning a lot more - never too old.

Hey y'all. I just got approved today. Been looking at a lot of sites about habitat, and I liked this one best, so I joined.

I mostly hunted in Ohio, but have started hunting in Canada and Europe. I hunt about 100 acres in Ohio, but it is not my land, so I don't decide what happens there. I can, however, make suggestions.

What I really need help with is a property I just started working on in Ontario. It's about 285 acres of wilderness on Manitoulin Island. It has limited access, but I can get an ATV back there.

I also fish and pick mushrooms, so I'm looking forward to contributing in those threads as well.

Mark

Welcome swampCat and Telemark.

Thanks! :emoji_smiley: I like this website. Looking forward to learning and contributing.

Welcome back Matt - glad to hear the California coast didn't keep you!

Hello everyone. I'm a new guy from Central NH. I'm not one to join forums generally, but I wanted to thank everyone here for all of the wisdom that you take time out of your day to share with strangers on the internet. I can't even express in words how much I've learned from you all. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Scott

Welcome aboard Scott!
I'm sure you have some wisdom to share too.

Hello everyone.

Curtis from MN here. I've got a little piece of swamp up in Koochiching County, but live in the Twin Cities. Last year was my first hunting season on my own property. I had Jeff Sturgis out to consult in the Spring, cut in a long skinny plot late Summer and was just able to get some Winter Rye in early Fall. I'm looking forward to working through the property plan he proposed over the next few years, a little bit at a time. Here's a picture of the plot from the South end looking North. It's about 50' wide on average, and just over 2 acres.

Thank you Bill. I'm excited I found you guys. I'm relatively young and VERY new at all things habitat management. I do think I have a relatively unique piece of property and circumstances to work with. I'll definitely document to the best of my abilities and share. I'm sure someone at some point will find it useful, even if for nothing more than than a few laughs.

Welcome and Beautiful! I'd be willing to bet Jeff's plan has that skinny plot leading to another larger plot. He loves those narrow winding plots in the timber. I know why, I have one and it's my favorite stand site.

That's a nice looking 2 acre plot! You're up in the neighborhood of the legendary John Breen buck.

Start a land tour thread to document your progress. They seem to be one of the most popular things around here for the long haul. Mine is lacking but there are some good ones.

Will do.

That's the plan good sir. I've got a million and one questions for all of you experienced guys on how to apply what I have learned on this site to my land. I'll start working on my land tour thread in the next few days.
