Trapping Your Land.

Just shot a double this morning from the Aqua stand! One off the bait pile at 215 yards, they other at 325 yards. The last one made the mistake of stopping for my fake yelp! LOL
Good deal!
I caught one yesterday. He is mangy and was out at noon.

I think trapping nest preds and yotes makes a huge difference for seeing more turkey, quail and deer. The closer you can trap yotes to when fawns are dropping is best. That's end of May- first part of July in Tennessee. I also made this flashy coat for my Dad.

Isn't that something!

I wonder what my old man would say if I handed him that coat.......POW*

Mo,
He would lock you up and torture you? POW?

I tried to get it lined with a confederate flag but he preferred a TN Titans logo. Hopefully it's cold enough to wear to the games next year.

I run "Jake Traps" by JC Connor, but snares where legal can really put a dent in them.

Anyone try MB 550 traps? Seems like thats what all the serious trappers use around here. Supposed to be fastest strongest coil spring trap on the market. Think I may get a dozen and get geared up for a week or trapping every yr. Prolly sell all my old duke traps to recoup some cost.

Traps bring good money on online auctions up here in season!

The Minnesota Trapline line equipment is good stuff. Tends to be a bit on the pricey side, but you probably get your moneys worth. I believe they still make there stuff in the USA as well. In terms of the 550 itself kind of depends what your target animals are. Just coyotes and maybe a bobcat?

Especially when the auctioneer says "Got some ANTIQUE traps here!" most of the time they are anything but; however, most buyers are clueless. Best place to find deals on new and used traps is at your state trappers association fall convention.

Here is most of the coyotes I killed over a weeks time, back around the first week of January. Sold them this am to our local furbuyer. The best dog in the bunch (one in the center of the pic) brought $75.

I use the JC Conner Jake traps and #3 Bridger four coil IL dogless, on the Bridger's I shortened the chains and added JC Conner shock springs.

Those are alot better looking than our kansas coyotes.A friend told me yesterday he has alittle over 150 coyotes this year, don't know how many cats or coon.usually has a couple hundred coon

A guy I know caught just over 100 KS yotes this yr. Said he won't "make" any money with them.

That is probably the case. You are 4 hrs south of me. If I went 4 hrs northwest of me, I would be averaging $60-70 a coyote this year. Top dogs would be close to $100. 4 hours drive time can make a heck of a difference in coyote fur quality. Lots of gasoline involved with killing 100 yotes.

Yep, and yep!
My first "job" was trapping. Bought my first basketball with trap money. The guys I know who still trap do it as a passion. Not worth it if you have to make money with it.

I remember back in the late 80's a guy could get over $30 for a decent coon pelt. About 10 years ago I bought a couple coon dogs, and tried my damnedest to take home bank. Hunting almost every night, and on every weekend. Setting live traps, I had a huge freezer full, over 200 pelts, and the price just dropped to about $4-8 for a decent medium/large hide, with extra large at about $15. I considered it a huge loss for the year. After that my son still wanted to hunt, but we got rid of one coon dog, and did it as a whenever we wanted to pleasure hunt, then just gave the hides to a buddy. It just wasnt worth storing them, feeding 2 dogs, and all the gas. We no longer have dogs, but my son wants a couple, but that will be his call after he moves out into his own place.

Just want to give this topic a bump to see how everyone has been doing this season. No expert but i believe they are close to their breeding season in my area. It is only my second year trying to reduce their numbers and I finally am starting to have some success at it. I am up to 15 yotes on the year with five coming in the past 6 days.

Always wanted to try trapping. Don't know much about it. Would love to eliminate some coyotes. Leghold traps are illegal in Mass...not sure how else you'd trap a coyote.

A conibear rigged up to catch them by the leg? I got a coon that way once.

Yes. I have a few. They are excellent. I think they are the best available.
