Time to get to work again...

Now that the newly released deer zone designations and limits are out, it's time to assess how hard I/you/we are going to have to work to preserve the inch of progress we made with our past mild winter.

For me and zone 172, with it's new fancy 25% herd increase goal, we were met with a 100% increase in doe tags over last year. Needless to say, to move in the right direction or even hold our own, we're going to have to do it with good ole' fashioned diplomacy.

So from here, it's back to the neighbor coalition plan again. I think it's also important that we again discuss how to approach it in the right way. We don't know what we're going to get if we never had the conversation. So from here, I've got one piece of advice.

Go talk to your neighbors and just discuss with them your zone designation and what they think of the state of the herd. Feel them out from there. If they're PO'd too, go for the mutual trigger control plan right away. They're not there, don't go for it right away. May take more time before you get them to come around. For now, have the talk and gather info on how they feel.

Good luck.

Chris-that is probably the best we can do.

You guys are in a very similar boat with me, and my neighbors passing on small bucks. The last thing you can do is convey your way is better than their way. If you do that, they will rub every Bambi they wax in your face.
I've congratulated every single one of my neighbors on every single deer we've talked about them shooting. Some still smoke every yearling buck they see. Some have let go many bucks over 130" like I have.
You guys are the ones on the right track. Your gonna have to be patient, and composed. I'd personally start with the biggest landowners who you think u can really sway first. The absolute pin heads save for last, cause it'll be almost impossible to sway them.
