Think I'm down a quail :(

Can't be sure what's in his mouth but I've seen a cat trying quail close to here in the past. When I was on stand last winter the quail won. Maybe not this time.

Yep, I think so too. And I'm down several bunny rabbits over the last few weeks. They are natural born killers.

Yep sure looks like one less. I wish bobcats were the worst of my problems. Dang wolves and yotes. That’s a neat picture though.

My barn cats bring home rabbits on a regular basis, I can't imagine how good of a hunter a bobcat must be.

Somehow I don't mind sharing with the Bobcats. Dogs are a different story.
Maybe because they are so few and far between.

Bobcats are very rare here, they see a few in the southern part of the state. Very neat animal to see in the wild.
We make a bunch of bunny piles whenever we cut wood, I think I like rabbit hunting in winter with snow on ground more than about any other hunting.
I met with my state biologist last week and he asked if I might be interested down the road in quail stocking on my place..."WELL HELL YES!" was my answer. Once my cranberry/hazelnut/button brush/crab apple/chinkapins/pin oaks/dogwood in my shrub strips start producing they should have a buffet and good cover with the native grasses and mixed hardwoods...the sixty plus apple/pear orchard shouldn't hurt either.

It would be nice to see and hear them again, we haven't had any in my area since the blizzard of 78.
A couple of my neighbors have some nice thick old school brushy fence rows that sure look like good habitat they could spread out to, the county just to south of me is just starting to get some coveys re-established. The southern part of the state has limited hunting in select counties, I haven't shot a wild quail since I was a kid. We used to bump a covey or two up every time we went rabbit hunting back in the early seventies. I used to flush a small covey in almost the same spot every day while running my after school trapline, loved hearing them whistle in the evenings in the summer.
