Survivors

Free intel aside, this kind of immoral behavior drives me nuts. Turn those pranksters in.

Those are two beauties N. MO. I can't help but notice the apples still hanging above buck number 1. That tree looks like a tough old survivor too!
Thanks. It's an old pear tree, there are a few dozen growing wild in my woods. Every winter I prune them a little more and pears eventually start to grow on most of them. Not sure of the variety, the fruit is small and pretty grainy and does not turn sweet until mid November and many are still hanging until the end of November. The deer love them.

Nice beams.

This guy wasn 4 this year, and I'd have killed him, but didn't get on him...

This guy was 3 and got a pass, he's gonna be something! As is the wide guy. Both 3, several of us could have shot both of them several times this year. Hoping they blow up in 2019
We had them on the hoof next to the sanctuary the last week of hte season. The 10 point is starting drops on both beams

I’m just getting to know some of the deer on my place but this is a cool deer that showed up in January. I don’t know if he’s going to hang around since I don’t have any other pics of him earlier. But he appears to have been at the farm from mid January through mid.

This is a cool young deer that just showed up too. I thing special yet but could be a stud in a couple years.

This was my bummer of the year. This guy lived on my farm and was a regular. I would say my farm was a big part of his core range. He was only 2.5 but was going to be a stud in 2 more years. I’m assuming someone shot him from the road and he died where I found him...I need to get my MG screens going. The picture below is him alive.

This is one of the 2-3 bucks I am confident are 3.5+...hoping a couple of them survived.

I’d like the post except for the dead one...

Don’t know if you have room but while my MG was just getting started I drilled Sudan sorghum behind it. Not the best for late season but it beats nothing. Always tried to plant late so the seed heads wouldn’t form and make it fall over but that never seemed to work. It always seemed to push a seed head anyway, just grew shorter.

I bought 50# of plot screen from northwoods this year so I can experiment with screening some stuff. I plan to plant it a mile long and 12’ wide as an experiment to see how well I can screen out a gravel road. Also going try screening some tougher entry and exit
routes to stands I like but with tricky access. Want to experiment with something temporary before going permanent

Order some norway spruce from MDC. Plant them as a more permanent solution.

Someone poached a great deer like that and then just let it lay? WHY the hell would anyone be doing that???? I just cant fathom what assholes some people are. Would love to catch one of these pricks someday. Is there meth in the area?

I remember my first experience with road hunters. I nearly jumped out of my skin. The road was up behind me about 75 yards, and it sounded like they were shooting at me. I found the doe they shot in a creek about 40 yards from my stand. I thought "what the hell was the point of that?!" Some people are just garbage.

If it was poached I assume it ran from where it was shot to where I found it (about 100 yard from a field visible from the road). I have no way of knowing for sure since the coyotes had taken about everything but the head and a portion of the spine. Give the location and timing of when I found it (before rifle season) my assumption was that it was poached. There’s only one neighbor that bow hunts and he and I have both been watching this deer...he certainly would not have shot it.

This was my best 1 1/2 yr.old this year ..found him 200ft off the road...I think he was killed by car...I found a young buck carcass a few years ago in same spot.. Common crossing

Well at least you know where to hang a stand.

Got a few survivors on camera. The one closest to the camera should be pretty nice this coming year.

Survivor in MN

I think this is a different buck from the one I posted above, but the one in the background here has dropped his antlers.
