Some bucks I have captured over the years

Peplin Creek

5 year old buck +
I thought I would share some of the bigger deer I have had on camera over the years. Not as big as some of those Midwest deer from MO ya’ll share but nice none the less.

You could tell me they were all from MO and I'd believe it. That first pic is my favorite. He's just a hog. Probably not the biggest you posted but the angle makes him look yuge...

He was an old deer.. and smart. Only time I ever got pictures of him was during rut. I wish I knew back the what I do now and maybe I could have put more tags on these deer.... I sure enjoyed the chase though.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like your top end is a notch above mine.

Until we started running trail cameras, we didn’t think deer like that roamed the property. I always tell people, especially ones that don’t run a high number of cameras, there’s a good chance through out the course of the year there are big deer lurking in the area and most of the time, more than one. It amazes me of how I can get pictures of these deer but only manage to lay eyes on them maybe once, twice if I am lucky throughout a hunting season.

Peplin Creek - Great pix !! I like the 3rd pic in the top row of the first 2 posts. They show big bucks just going about their business and not staring at the camera. The buck in the 631 KB pic of post #2 looks like he ran all his fat off rutting. The buck in the pic of 604.9 KB of post #1 is my mental picture of a monster buck of " edge " habitat. That pic is my nirvana of a sight while in a tree stand !! :emoji_thumbsup:Thanks for sharing.

The “edge” picture is a great spot for mature deer in daylight. I have it setup on a trail crossing an atv path. But yeah there’s a transition of woods, tall pines and scrubby brush to aspen and birch. Swamps on both ends. Looking at a map you would never think it’s anything special but really it’s a major travel corridor from swamps, through bedding. Only problem is, there isn’t very good trees to get a bow stand in. I was thinking posting up a hang on in the pine tree in the background but am pretty nervous about sticking out like a sore thumb and ruining the spot.

See that gnarly looking tree in the desert of overhead cover? That's my tripod next to a couple trees with lots of cut cedar tied all over the place. Just absolutely no way to have a stand here but I needed one so I build cover :). It even has some old artificial Christmas tree branches in there. Put a comfy ladder on that pine and just build crap around it. Cedar and shingle oak make great cover. So do old artificial Xmas trees.

I'll be on the look out for those in just a few weeks.....

Here's a day shot. The one big cedar in front is a rubbing post. It was just cut and put here with a post hole digger.

Kinda duel purpose cover and rubbing post.

Awesome.... The artificial Christmas trees sounds like a great idea. I could probably brush it in nicely that way.

Bill - I agree cover makes any stand better. That's why I try to put my stands tucked into pine or hemlock trees, or at least have some of those surrounding my stand tree to break up my outline. Nice job on the "brush-in" for your stand tree !!
