So who still has apples hanging

Deer are still working my crabs. They are even eating some of the Morse Bunches crabs.

-35 this morning. Am I back in zone 3?

You need to move, now don't wait. Travel south. It is warmer. There are apple trees. There are critters to chase. Go visit your current location during summers :). Minus 35 dang! The coldest I have ever experienced is probably only minus 10, if that!

I have seen-45 twice during my life. LP tanks froze up.

Made it to camp yesterday. Found a few of my varieties still had some apples hanging although my Galarina and Enterprise had all fallen, each year seems to be different. Here are a few pictures of the trees that still had apples hanging.

Not bad for January 27th.IMG_5419.JPG

My Sundance just began bearing a few apples this year but from all indications it looks like it will be a good late hanger.

Great looking orchard!

Real nice looking trees! I can tell you've put a lot of work into them.

This is really useful to see what varieties really do hold this late into the season. I have Galarina, Enterprise, Liberty, and Honeycrisp in the ground, but not yet bearing, so it is interesting to see how late yours are still holding. I don’t have Jonafree or Sundance, so it’s eye-opening to see how well yours are doing – impressive orchard overall. I am located near the NY/PA border (5b), can you tell me where your orchard is located?

My latest hanging apple is an Ida Red. I counted 53 apples still hanging on January 10th, but after a cold snap (-10), on the 14th, a lot dropped right after that, and all but one lonely apple were gone by the 19th .

Here are a few pictures taken today in one of my apple tree plots. Apples still hanging on the tree and usually do up to the middle of February. The stove pipe seen in the pictures protects the crop from raccoons and porcupines.IMG_2613.JPGIMG_2614.JPG

My property is located about 10 miles from the NY/PA border, about 5 miles Southwest of the town of Little Valley.

Good to know Natureboy. I'm about 70 miles to the east of you, near Canisteo NY, so similar weather. I'm encouraged to know these varieties are holding well for you. I appreciate the insight, thanks.

Great Choices you have made (ie: Honeycrisp, Enterprise, Liberty, Galarina). The are of the very best for holding apples late season.

Nice orchard @Natureboy, great to see what mine has the potential to be in some years from now!

Appleman - I like that stovepipe idea. I'll probably end up doing that as well - coons and porkies.

Natureboy - Great looking orchard you have there !! Nice work. Thanks for posting the pix and the varieties.

That’s an awesome looking tree. Have you noticed any disease issues on this tree?
