Red neck spray insulation

I have found out the hard way I don't think there is a material in any position that stuff doesn't stick too. I have it on my clothes, tools, hair, coat, gloves, windows, dog, cat, and anything thing that even touches it. And it's a SOB to get off too! I think that foam nozzle is a pretty cool invention. I don't use them all the time but when I do they are amazing. I just used it on floor joists spaces at my house. I had insulation stuffed in there and I used the spray nozzle and created a much cleaner look and more efficient.
Oh I have used it before as well and have ruined plenty of clothes in the process. That sometimes seems to be the trick however is getting it to go and stay where you want it!!!!

I was scared to apply it myself, so I let my sister do it for me. Seems to stick good.

My mother thought it looked like fun so she gave it a try too. I think sis is better at it:

If anyone is installing a new bath tub, or new kitchen sink....foam the back side a day before install and let the foam setup overnight. Your wife will love you for it. It takes about 5 cans of foam to do an average tub and it will keep the water hotter much longer. This also works the same way for a kitchen sink, if you want to soak your pots and pans overnight....this works great for the kitchen sink at camp.

Someone mentioned about water leaking through the corners.... nothing a little flex seal couldn't fix...

I finally got around to giving the nozzles a try a couple of weeks ago on our Menards pentagon blind. What I was trying to fill looked like this:

I quickly realized the wide nozzle wasn't what I needed to use:

The areas I was trying to fill were too narrow for the nozzle. So after a short time I took the nozzle off and just used the tube from the can. The middle row in this picture was with the nozzle:

With 6 cans I got about 1/2 of the blind done (filling the voids, not covering the whole wall). I ran out of time and haven't sprayed any more foam since.

John, how did you like the ease of use of the nozzles?

I was surprised how easily they cleaned up. The foam doesn't stick at all. Anything else it touches is stuck for sure.

As I said above, I was using the nozzles for the wrong application but will use them in the future for sure.

john.. just out of my own curiosity. your application looks "thick", wondering if it is just a bit on the heavy side???? I have done a couple of things and I have learned keep that nozzle moving and apply very thin. does it seem thick or it is an optical illusion?

No, you are correct.

I was trying to fill a valley rather than a flat surface. Not the right application for the nozzle.

one thing I have noticed with this foam insulation more than anything. wow is that stuff sound deadening. you can make some acoustic panels by using that foam nozzle on the back of panels and hang them in your house. They dramatically reduce the sound!!

I also made a couple of on the fly things in some tree stands..
I took a one liter soda bottle sprayed it with Pam, sprayed the lower 1/3 with it. I slipped the bottle out after it dried for a couple of days. I then put it in a tree stand for a coffee or soda holder. SUPER INSULATED!
I then got really wild. kidding.. I sometimes struggle a bit with pinch points on treestands as I get older, wait I am OLD. I used it to create a more comfortable stand by filling in areas by the tree on a hang on. I waited for it to dry and proceeded to shave bits off for a custom seat and back area.

the last is probably the MOST REDNECK thing I have done! don't laugh... I had an older pair of Lacrosse rubber boots. I wondered if I could spray the lower portion and would it help? HELL YEAH! WOW! I did one and tested it for a bit outside with the other not being done. Way warmer! Looks stupid. But this ain't a fashion show. The stuff sticks to anything. Yes I have need to reapply when needed. But for a cold sit and the boots were junk, I just transformed them into super cold weather boots! I wouldn't recommend working in them as they could get beat up, but walking to a stand or ice fishing, they are the cat's behind.

Well now that all the snow has melted, but we still have cold temps here. Yes we did get over 7 feet of snow over Christmas (48 hours). Erie, PA. We made the world news. After about 10 days of snow (104.7" total) we then had a high of 72, then the floods started. What a mess.....I can say that has to be the most snow I have ever seen come in that short amount of time. Almost all my neighbors are retired so I snow blow all their driveways, but it was challenging with having about 4' of snow in the street. I do have a nice JD X728SE 4WD tractor with a 2 stage blower that made due, but at one point i thought we would have to drive the tractor to the store just to get supplies (milk, bread, cheese, beer, you know the essentials). We had company come over for Christmas, gift exchange and family stuff, but then they couldn't leave because no roads were plowed. So over night stay they did. My back window looks over a hill that has a medium traffic flow....we turned it into a drinking game.....what else is their to do when your snowed in and have a game show out your back window?...the game was...for every car that has to turn around because they can't make it up a hill you have to take a drink..... Well Merry Christmas to all of us.... all the adults in the house, as well as the kids had a great time...the kids didn't partake in the beverages..... I did thank my wife for buying the big ham as we made a bunch of ham-wiches.

On a side note, I would like to thank all you guys and gals for all your support, and feedback that we have received. It helps us grow our bond to each other with what we can accomplish when we put our mind to it. I love reading all the posts, seeing all the photos, and keeping in touch.

If any of you ever have an insulation question, please let me know. Like I stated before, no BS here, true straight facts.

Happy New Year, well Ground Hogs Day, oh crap that was yesterday....or was it Bill Murray??

Those Menard's blinds are on clearance sale now. Sale goes til Feb. 10

$300 for the 4-panel one. $344 for the 5-panel.

The HABITAT code is still good for 10% off your entire order, and free shipping to the USA only.

I wonder if you could insulate your water heater with it?

Yes you can, I would hit it with some rough sandpaper real quick just to add some bite. Be sure not to cover any ventilation holes if it’s a gas unit.

Thanks, do you recommend moving from bottom to top like I've seen in videos?

Moving in that direction may give the best results (smoothness after expansion). Try a couple of practice runs before spraying the foam to see what is more comfortable for you.

Little tip, after you apply the foam LIGHTLY mist it with water for maximum expansion.

Cap'n - did you get a chance to foam your hot water tank yet??

Did you ever do your hot water tank? Remember the HABITAT code is still good for 10% off.
