is it a good time now to prune fruit trees in NE Penna.

Ideally you wait for the coldest part of winter to be passed. There can be winter die back from freshly pruned cuts.

From mid February to beginning of March would be about the best time for NEPA. But you can go earlier or a little later if those times are better for you.

and.....Its real easy to take scion wood then too from those pruned dormant branches.

I usually do my pruning in early to mid-March at my camp in N.C. Pa. I agree with all 3 gents above on their points.

Mid to late March here in SE Mich. Collect scions then for storage till grafting time..."when the leaves are the size of mouse ears".

I normally prune my apple trees at camp from early to mid March. I try to take advantage of the the first warming spell of the late winter to prune trees and collect maple sap.

Oh, bored and reading threads. I was in the stand not long ago looking at the trees through binoculars doing the same thing. I know for me it is best to prune after February 15, but just asked Aero how soon he prunes in PA. It is like hoping your mother comes to you as a child and says we decided to let you open your Christmas presents in November!

Maya - I was kinda thinkin' I might invite you DOWN HERE to assess our trees and put you up at the camp. Good food, free beer, comfy recliners with woodstove, etc. It sleeps 25 with all the beds upstairs. Inside shower, and complete bathroom, with electric baseboard heat throughout the cabin to take the chill off while the woodstove takes over. Card-playing room with 2 poker tables too. You don't even have to cut once ............ just point out where I need to !!!

Aero's place is only an hour from my camp right between my camp and your route home. Maybe we could stop in to sample his cider ??? !!!

Sounds like fun! Lets try and figure it out. Hopefully I can get some help in my orchard so I can get it pruned quickly.
