Opening Weekend

5 year old buck +
Had a blast of an opening weekend. Started on Friday with a 4 man limit of doves. Was meet with a heavy fog Saturday morning, caused a slight change in flight patterns but still managed to pull 18 geese. Scouted Sat for a new field. Pulled 19 Sunday morning 2 with bands. Then put in one last ditch effort an found another field late Sunday night, I'm talking couldn't hardly see the geese in the field late. And managed to pull 21 Monday morning before heading home. All in all probably the best opener we have put together to date. A lot of scouting an hard work paid off.

Awesome.....have you found out where the bands are from yet?

I am not the best wing shooter, but smacking some geese is a lot of fun. Never been much of a dove hunter, but I'm always game to go shoot at some honkers!

Ya, turns out the birds were banded in 2016 about 10 miles away from where they were shot.

Id say 90% of the birds we shot were young of the year or only a couple years old.

That looks like a blast! Way to go! Makes me think of my younger days when I was a serious bird hunter.

But I dont envy the thought of cleaning all those things! Have at it!

It's a lot of work but awful darn fun when you get on them and worth every drop of sweat. Nice work!!!

Nice shoots...and a little jewelry to boot!

Not quite as good as the opener we had last year, but one I will not soon forget.

Walked away with a little silver, an a couple dehydrators full of jerky for the trip West tomorrow.

When I’m to old for habitat work I’m definitely going back to the birds. No honkers though. Love shooting jumbo jets but their just so unpredictable around here.

I’ll be an old green wing teal hunter that finishes the season before it gets to cold.

Nothing like 30 green wings at sonic speed dropping in on you.
