Old Corncrib Into Small Shop

Mista Paacha

5 year old buck +
I inherited an 80 from my grandfather. Years ago when he had cattle he used this old Corncrib as a cattle barn. He built loading chutes and feed bunks all over this 2+ acre site. Several years of neglect by my uncles who took over the farm led to what you see. My plan is to get the acreage cleaned up and turn the Corncrib into a small shop. The crib is 28' wide and 36' long. Still has the walls inside.

This is what I started with.

As you can see the concrete has stayed pretty dry over the years. So I brought my first project to store for the winter.

Some skid loader clean up.

Fixed the sliding doors and removed the slider on the rear.

I have pulled down the old power line and trenches in a new service. Replaced the well pump and pressure tank. So I now have power to the crib and water at a hydrant outside. I dug up a concrete feed bunk and have been mowing weekly to keep down the weeds.

In a couple weeks I'm going to start with new steel on the crib and replace the sliding door with an overhead door. Add a walk in door and take out the inner walls to open up the inside. I'm going to get help with that part as making rafters us not something I've done.

Nice job. Looks alot like our family farm. Trying to help my mom begin the clean up phase and restore usage to the other buildings.

Nice work!

As they all are it's a work in progress. I have two teenage girls that are super busy so I get little to no help. My Brother in Law has helped some but he has to if he wants to continue to hunt it.

Here is a video he did from his drone.

Your getting places!!!

Glad to see that you repaired the old building. A lot of people would have just burned or tore it down. At one time when I was younger, I bought old barns and buildings for next to nothing. The farmers just wanted them off the assessment by the tax man. I salvaged all the beams and barn boards that I could from the old buildings and sold them. Landscapers and builders bought many of the repurposed beams. The barn boards were sold to persons who used them for interior design projects.

Nice project!
Looks like it is really coming along.

Looking good. What year is the old Chevy Truck?

Started tearing of the old tin today.

MP ... keep posting your progress ... I have multiple buildings like you looking for a purpose ...

Looks great, wish I had some of those to work on,My land had no buildings.Way to go saving them

Looking good!

I love re-purposing old builds. But I still end up with an old building that nothing is the size I need!
