Just saw this on the"dark side" - the link they had posted was to field and stream's website. I'm not smart enough to know how to do that!

Teenage kid shot an known escaped buck from local high fence operation. They said it would have cost a hunter $20K to kill the buck.

Kid has a heck of a deer and a heck of a story to go with it. It will be interesting to see if the high fence place tries to recover any damages. I have no idea if they have any ground to stand on, but a loss of $20K will at least have them looking into it.

Damages, BS, they should be fined $20,000 for letting it get away in the first place.

To post a link, all you have to do is open the link in another browser tab or window, right click the web address in the browser bar at the top, click "copy", then go back to your thread post, right click again and click "paste". Easy-peasy. Try it, you'll like it!

D*mn! He killed Da Turdy Pointer!

I'm not sure I want to know, but I'm right there with you j-bird.

You don't. Did you see? I'm not a "link" virgin anymore!

Well done! Now we will see j-bird posts all lit up with links. LOL And that's OK.

I guess the fence wasn't high enough. Good for the kid.

The preserve has no right to seek damages, and, depending on what happened that caused the escape, could be fined if the state so chose. FWIW, that's no $20k deer, either. Good for the kid, he's got a heck of a story, a heck of a buck, and a completely clean conscience.

I like that the kid is going to mount it with the tag in the ear. Great story and not trying to BS anyone.

A Wisconsin man did the same hunting in Iowa this year on a even larger buck I think.

Jeff the story said the ranches website listed 200in plus bucks start at 19 grand or somewhere in that area. I guess this is where the public get their info that we must make so much money having deer. If they were worth that much i really would be a wealthy man. lol

The one comment had a guy saying he hopes that buck did not breed any does while he was free. Im not so sure that fella knows that past info on how Ohios deer population was put in place by high fence deer oh so many years ago. I think people would be shocked if they really knew how many good thing have came from high fence and farms when it comes to whitetails and the past.

We're they growing 200+ inch freaks way back when?

Dont know how long way back when is in your mind but 200in bucks have been around for awhile. Have you ever looked at record books and noticed that most every state that tops both the record books are also the top deer farming states? Probably could even go one step further and look at the counties of where the top book bucks were harvested and you would probably find a deer farm or high fence ranch somewhat close to the same area.

How many doe's did it breed on the outside of the fence?

That's part of the reason I wondered how long it had been out. If it is a normal male of the species, the answer is: as many as possible! :D

No I have not looked. Record books don't interest me.

I bet the bucks on my property wouldn't even have antlers if it weren't for the almighty deer farmer.

Eartag = Livestock There would be no handling of that scenario. Many bucks are shot in the pen with an ear tag that break world records every year, so what?

BC has issued statements that they don't even want their name mentioned in relationship to any animal shot that is not wild and fair chase and if they could do it in some way, they would make it illegal to use their scoring system to score them, of course unenforceable, but a statement on how they feel about farmed game animals nonetheless.
