My first cider batch for 2017. A few easy steps

It's sugar and or glucose-fructose that will not convert to alcohol and will retain its sweetness I just keep adding mixing and tasting until I have the correct sweetness for my taste then bottle itView attachment 15256
Is this product the sugar you talk about?

I did use campden tablets.

Yes here is a link to buy it

Here is the link for siphon also. You will need to buy some tubing also to go from siphon to container you are putting cider into https://www.austinhomebrew.com/Auto-Siphon-12_p_687.html

I made another batch of cider. Crab apples with Snowsweet are a winner. Crabs and haralred were not as good. Perhaps Haralred are not quite ripe, but some were dropping.

My Haralson dropped in Sept. this year. Nice big apples and I tried a few. They tasted just like water. No flavor. Does too wet and too little sunshine cause this?

Let's see the cider. I like to see the color of cider based on the apples in the mix

I think crab apples have a ton of flavor compared to some commercial apples. I can see why they'd add big taste to cider.

Sandbar is that cider ready to drink? Still bit hazy. Looks like mine when it comes out of first fermentation

Here are my current 3 batches in secondary fermentation and clearing process I will probably do a 3rd fermentation after siphoning off the really clear ciderIMG_1434.JPG

View attachment 15261 Finished product from previous years batch. This one is pure honey crisp cider
Those small glass bottles of cider look great - how long can you leave them in there? I haven't seen lids/caps like those before, how do they work? Is that a hard cider or straight sweet cider? I've been planting way too many apple trees for a number of years and I would eventually like to make cider like you guys. This is great information.

That's an impressive haul. How much juice would you get from that load of apples?

I would guess 3 or 4 gallons. I partly fill bottles and freeze it or give it away.

Those bottles were filled in 2014 I think. Nit sure how they will taste now. I have them in fridge. They are grolsch beer style bottles. Work great. That is hard cider
