Live from the stand thread

I don’t know how many days I’ve hunted since September 15th. I’ve probably seen 20 deer and taken one small buck but I have more sits seeing nothing than ones where I see anything. This is our antlerless season and I’m hoping to put a doe in the freezer. I pulled cards yesterday and have quite a few pics since our main rifle season ended but they’re all nocturnal pics. The challenge of small property hunting surrounded by small properties. The deer have been hunted hard. I probably should have taken the day off. This was the first time all season I was bored and not very alert. I’m just tired. Getting up at 3:45 or 4:00 has caught up with me. I thought maybe I’ll hunt better this afternoon if I have a nap in the truck. C1CEF3E8-DD35-43C2-80A0-F13C1D60FA12.jpeg Here’s my view right now ...

My neighbor likes to hunt from his truck =) ... Deer hunting can become such a grind.

100 acres of picked corn North of me, 55 acres of cover south of me(pines, brush, goldenrod). Now if only I didn’t spook them coming in , I should see something...
Update: There were deer moving just out of sight in the pine trees, but they just wouldn’t come into the opening that I could observe. I’m going to have to intensively scout this place after season.

No pix - but the first day of our rifle season my youngest son had a nice 8 point about 40 yds. from his tree stand. He never got a shot because the buck stayed behind a line of mountain laurel before heading back where he came from. All he could see was the head & rack. He and I saw 4 spikes, 2 forkies, 12 does, and that nice 8 pt. in the first 2 days. Deer seemed to be moving around on their own all day.

Finished up muzzleloader season tonight. I sat with my son this weekend and he had possession of the smoke pole. Unfortunately we didn’t see any deer from stand over the weekend. We did jump one rt by his stand on our way in this afternoon. Only heard it running off. Was a ton of fun sitting with my boy tho.

Those guys drive me nuts. Especially when they kill one......

Dad and I hunted IL's 2nd shotgun season Thur-Sunday. We each took a mature doe on Fri afternoon. Each of us passed decent bucks, just not quite what we're looking for. I was startled how big my doe was after the 90 yard trail job. Shot took out her heart. When I got to dad to drag his out of the creek, she made mine look small. We took these two to the locker. His deer yielded 60 lbs of ground venison in addition to the steaks, chops, and tender loins, which I'd guess may add another 20 lb. It was a great hunt.

Sweet pic^^^^^^^^^^ love the old school Hawken.

I had a bigger deer coming out of the woods behind me just before the end of shooting hours. It held up in some mountain laurel and i made to much noise trying to figure out where it was. Dad said there were 5 at the other end of the field.

I turned my alarm of this morning but should have m gone out. It looks lovely out. 2-3" new snow and coming down light but steady. I'd go out now but wife wants me to drive her to town. Doing family xmas dinner after lunch then will be out to dark. Flintlock ends next weekend.

I have 2 more site left this season. But it will be miserable. Actual temps -15, windchills about -40.

I skipped Saturday night, but hunted Sunday night. I saw 2 deer in the woods, closest shot would have been 40 yards. To far for me. But on my way home, I have never seen so many deer in the fields. Over 200 easily in 4 miles.

Wandering eyes forgive me if I missed something here, but archery goes until January 7th in WI statewide. It hasnt ended is December for many years.

I know that, but I live in Minnesota, and bow hunt here in MN. My hunting land is in Wisconsin. I know my location says Wisconsin, because that is where my land is, and where I am talking about for habitat projects.

Makes sense to me. Just double checking you are not missing another week of fun.
