Just some apple pics

5 year old buck +
A Liberty tree that started life in 2004 as an Antovonka seedling. I top worked it over to Liberty in 2014. This is the first year it's produced apples.

An Enterprise tree with the same history as the above tree produced 2 apples this year.

And a Galarina also with the same history is carrying about 7 or 8 apples.

A Florina on B118 has 3 apples this year.

A King David on B118 rootstock is carrying 2 apples high up in the tree.

A Goldrush on B118 also has a couple of apples.

I was all "primed" to try some Eastman Sweet's this year, with the tree carrying about a dozen apples. Then they started to disappear. I blamed coon for the loss and set a "dog-proof" coon trap under the tree. The last two apples disappeared with no coon caught so now I'm thinking maybe squirrels ??? were the thieves. Here's a pic taken before they were stolen from me.

These are Meyer's Royal Limbertwigs starting to "blush up".

I cut open one of the Antonovka seedlings crabapple sized fruit. The seeds are turning dark so I tasted it. :emoji_anguished::emoji_anguished: I couldn't spit it out fast enough. Astringent, bitter, sour. None of these words come close to the taste of that little apple. Their starting to drop from the tree so I'll see if the deer think their any better tasting than I do.

Finally not an apple but my wild plums are starting to ripen. I dug up several seedlings on my sister-in-laws farm some years ago and they have begun to produce for me. Their a tasty snack as I take my morning walks.

Rick, those are some clean apples! Do you spray much? Mine are much "spottyer".

No spray. They are my "prettiest" apples. I have some ugly ones. My Sherry apples are rotting on the tree. My ready to top work it over to something else.

My Purdy apples have been hit hard by bugs.

My Ashmead Kernel tree growing right beside the Purdy is showing little damage.

And my Chestnut Crab produced some wonderfully delicious and clean apples. Sandbur has sung praises about the Chestnut Crab and I'm ready to join the choir. :)

Nice looking plums! Leaves and fruit look very clean. I would be interested in some scion wood off that plum. The leaves look very similar to a plum variety I am growing called Silver Prune Plum.

I'll make a note, Chris. I have to warn you that it does get some brown rot on the fruit.

Beautiful fruit trees. Nice job!

Nice looking apples good to see what can be done with no spray. Have you noticed any varieties getting fireblight worse than others?

The apple gods must be smiling on me cause I've had no fireblight for several years.

Very nice looking fruit! I do love apple porn!!!!

Well i'm hungry, thanks @greyphase !

Great photos as well.

Great pix of all the trees, Rick !! I hope to join the Chestnut crab club this fall.

Ain't it nice to see all those starting to produce?. I think my orchard will really take off in the next couple years. My 3 year old trees from Cummins have nice crops on Redfree, Williams Pride, centennial, Dolgo, winecrisp, goldrush, and dabinett. A bunch more had just a few fruit including some of my 2015 bench grafts or tbuds. Much more fruiting than I expected at this point.

The Centennial Crabs were very tasty. Dolgos looked about ripe too. I gave one to my 2 year old. She kept biting on it and smacking her lips from the tartness. Williams pride and redfree were not great apples but it was nice to eat some clean fruit off my own trees.

You mentioned the coon or squirrels. I stopped by a local park to check on ba few apple trees. As I walked up to the 1st tree, a half eaten apple dropped. I looked up to see the squirrel that dropped it.

I want to see more of this - looking good!

Great Pics - Thank you and glad to see Chestnut Crab up close. I have exactly 3 on a tree and have picked a bird pecked specimen that had half-brown seeds. This may have just been ripening because of the wound but the backside / the non bird pecked side sure was good. That was about a week ago - I will be checking one of the remainders soon. I note when my 29 varieties ripen here in SE Mich, but have not a definitive date yet for Chestnut Crab.

I was thinking of Blue Damsen (or Damsel) if I have the name right.

The seeds on chestnut crabs on the south sides of trees are just starting to turn brown. I will be making my first try at cider this year. My trees are loaded with fruit and limbs are breaking. I should have thinned more.

A few of my top works from 2015 are producing. I removed all of the blossoms I could reach from them but missed a few. I sent Chris what I called Big Dog (probably Columbia) and it is producing on the wild swamp crab rootstock. Rootstock from other wild seedlings has also done well.

I'm hoping our " Sherry " apple tree at camp doesn't have the problems yours has, Rick. Your pic of " Sherry " at post #3 rotting on the limb is a bummer for sure. I bought ours from SLN because it's listed as a heavy cropper that hangs late into winter and is very cold-hardy. Also an annual producer. I hope your problem is not a pattern, but an anomaly.
