How old is this dude?

Great rack but looks like young body. Maybe 3.5 ? Where are you from

I'm from Ohio. But that deer is from Ontario.

The whole area is on dolomitic limestone, so they pack on the bone. And racks are usually very symmetrical. The problem is that they are scarce, and they don't like my property.

I figured this one was 2.5 years old. Flat back, flat stomach, sharp rump, overall skinny through the body.

I agree with 2.5 for all the reasons you stated and lanky legs.

That's pretty amazing. Cover up the antlers and I see a doe. So 2.5 is my guess. But man those are some antlers for that age.

Now you see why I want to work that property. :emoji_relaxed:

And to think that was his rack in velvet in July. He was a monster in the making.

I'd say 2.5. We had a deer almost identical to him this past year. Key word, HAD. My uncle just couldn't hold off. I guess that is his right but man every year it seems like the most promising young bucks are being shot.

One of the reasons I am so interested in this property is the quality of the bucks, and another is that I am the only one hunting it. But people on the surrounding properties shoot everything. I need to hold the deer on my place so I can manage them.

July is probably the most deceiving time to judge age or antlers. Racks always look much larger in velvet and bodies almost always look younger than they will look just before the chase phase of the rut. And a single photo can really be misleading. Sometimes a buck will look like 3 different animals within seconds...depends on the viewing angle.
My wild ass guess is that he's a 3 year old.

He's either 2 or 3. Either way, young enough to get a lot bigger. How big can racks get in that region? Do you have 200"+ deer with any regularity or do they usually top much lower?

I havan't heard of any 200+. ButI'm not often up there during deer season.

Do you have any other pictures of him?

No. The neighbors do. They shot him. I can ask them this summer for photos. It was about five years ago, so i have deleted the photos on those cards.

My guess is 3 years old.

I'm sure they don't have his jaw.
