Habitat-Talk's October Trail Cam Photo Contest

My favorite stand. cam is pointed to high. Haven't got s pic in weeks. :emoji_unamused:

Bit of backstory behind these two pictures... after a somewhat typical drought of buck photos in late summer I did a camera card pull literally an hour or so before bands from Hurricane Irma started hitting us (appreciating all my cameras would have hundreds of videos of branches swaying if I didn't shut them off). Turned out this fella visited the plot just minutes before I rolled in... guess he could sense bad weather was coming and was prepping to weather it out with a full stomach. Told Bill in an earlier post if I harvest him I'm naming him "Johnny Reb" but thinking "Cane" may be more fitting / memorable! Never named a buck with a girl's name but with the hanging velvet looking like earrings, "Irma" is almost tempting. :emoji_wink:

Wish I had a better capture of this 8 point, but he's pretty camera shy -- do believe he may be the same buck I captured / shared in my pig trapping related post.

On the pig trapping note, laughed when I found this capture... bear cub breaking out of the joint (though trap door was wide open at the time :emoji_joy:).

Finally, a couple of shares that seems fitting with Halloween nearly upon us. Somewhat horrifying camera captures if you like your fields / plots to look nice versus looking like a drunk man plowed them in the middle of the night. :emoji_cry:

Have to admit the Marine in me found this one pretty admirable. Four pigs were running through when they came to a sudden complete stop together. They were really focused on checking out their 9 o'clock, noon, and 3 o'clock position. Have been part of some fire team rush exercises where guys weren't paying as close of attention.

I kinda like "Irma" bigbend. That is a fine looking buck, time to put him on the wall, and the grill!

... the bear cub makes me laugh, the pigs on the other hand, would make me cry!

That is a great FL buck Bigbendmarine. Good luck on getting him.

I see some piggies that need to go to market!!!!! Luckily the wild pig issue is a very limited one here in IN.....I want it to stay that way!

BBMarine, post #44 - That's the kind of pic that will make me buy a bear tag. Don't need those around our fruit trees !! Around here, bears are kind-of a cross between a raccoon, a wrecking ball, and a dozer. Nice buck though !! Good luck nailing him.

First on the buck note, a Murphy's law update... hunted Sat and Sun of our gun opening season this past weekend and saw 15 does. Thought maybe the heat (mid 80 highs) was delaying our typical early Nov chase... but card pull yesterday at lunch showed big buck 30 yards from my stand Monday evening when the darn time change has me home too late to get to stand.

On bear note, what I wouldn't give to keep them from getting too cozy and help keep numbers in check (have had visits from at lest 5 different bears this past year)... but alas FL wildlife folks caved to political pressure from a bunch of costume-wearing whacko protester types after just a single season in 2015 and keep putting off reopening it. Meanwhile, the season held by cars and trucks continues unabated while the city whackos who don't have to deal with them in their concrete jungle smile at their perceived protection... huge one got hit by a semi less than 5 miles from me a few years back. 3rd largest on record in FL at 600 pounds. Four of the five aren't huge that visit our place but one is... massive head and fat as fat can be. If it tipped the scales over 500 it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Interactive bear roadkill map shared on the Florida Wildlife Commission site clearly shows how "successful" the anti-hunter protection is proving with time... :emoji_cry::emoji_angry:

I know a few folks that work with the wildlife commission and they've share with me they STRONGLY believe that a well-controlled annual season is the responsible thing to do to keep numbers in balance, to lower vehicle accidents, and to actually help the bears remain wild and be leery of human contact... but that state politicians don't have the mettle to stand up to even a few extreme protesting wackos... sad sign of the times.

bears in FL, I would've never thought that

Not a deer, but a cool pic anyway.
