Growing Morel mushrooms?

We don’t get very many in northeast Texas. The season temps often times don’t line up with the right times rains.
We get a fair number of chicken and hen of the wood though. Any of y’all eat those?

When I had a farm in KY, some of the locals called them "Hickory Chickens." Never heard that anywhere else.

We never say that up north.

Anything that has to be fried to be edible isn't actually that good IMO. They're fun to find, but I give them away.

At our old place, we would soak the morels in well water, no salt or chlorine, and then dump the water in the same place on a hillside behind the house. We did find mushrooms the last few years we lived there in that spot. Was it because we "seeded" the area, don't know. But it was fun for my kids to do.

Nice, all these years of getting mushrooms and I never thought of that. It makes sense that the spores would wash out and stay in the water.

I would be more than happy to take them off your hands if you have trouble getting rid of them.
