Frostbite

Tried my first frostbite apple the other day and was I impressed - tasted kind of like a one of those fireball candies. Anybody have any experience growing them? I'll be adding this to my scion wish list!

We have two. The first couple years they only had a couple apples between them and before they were ripe something would ruin them. This year both were loaded. Looked like a typical crab apple but a bit bigger. Kinda funny though. The trees lost all their leaves so it looked like someone decorated them for Christmas.

They didn't have problems with scab this year but if you have red cedar you will need to spray.

Let me know off you want some scion.

I have noticed quite a difference in flavor based on ripeness. CAR was bad last year but not so bad this year.

I have purchased 5-7 Frostbite trees from difference suppliers and never have gotten one to grow!!! What rootstock? I am in zone 5 so it should grow easily, not sure what the problem is.

I just read your post - hopefully I can get them to grow! I ordered one on standard root stock from Fedco, and plan to graft some on Bud 9 for my home orchard as well.

Standard root stock from Bailey's. I believe Art or Stu thought they were either Dolgo or Ranetka.
