Edwards Imp Cultipackers

5 year old buck +
Has anyone have or heard any experience with these guys? I think they are out of Tennessee and advertise all over Craigslist. All American made.

I started looking for a 6', 7', or 8' cultipacker about 5 years ago. Here in the Northeast, as you probably know, they are tough to find. Couldn't find one that was in decent shape or that wasn't 12' wide....so I contacted Edwards about a year ago and got a quote for a 6' tow behind cultipacker that also had 3 pt. hitch adaptability. Crazy expensive! Just the packer alone was twice what anything else in that size range is going for. Shipping made it just ridiculous. I'm sure they are well built and quality implements...just way too expensive, IMHO, for something that just packs dirt.

I ended up finding an old 6' double wheel packer last spring down your way in CT for $400. I'll weld up some 3 pt. hitch brackets and should be good to go for a fraction of the price of what Edwards was asking.

edit....Just remembered I actually posted a thread about these guys a few years ago.

Natty- I couldn’t agree with you more. If you see or hear of anything , let me know. I need tow behind 5-8 ft range with greasable bearings. Like you said, not easy to find around here.

Will do. I am on CL all the time. I'm looking for a roller-crimper and a lime spreader. Good luck in your search Bob.

Ok. What size lime spreader?

Build your own cultipacker. Agri supply has the cultipacker wheels and bearings, hit up a local metal shop for the solid rod and steel box beam and whoever for the tires. Make it to your specs (how long you want it). Weld it up and you'll have a first class packer for a lot less than you'll pay retail. Here's a couple of PICS of the one we made to pull behind an ATV. About 5 feet long and weighs about 200-250 lbs.

Something in the 6' size. Also tough to find. My plots are small and few enough that I have no problem bringing in bagged lime and spreading it by hand. But as I create more plots and expand my existing plots I think a spreader wold be handy. Might have to buy a bigger one and chop it down.

BB Coach- what bearings did you buy for yours? Are they greasable? I might just go with the same one you have and have my cousin do it. I’m thinking 5-6ft as well. Is there anything you wish you would have done different on yours?

Yes the bearings are greasable. They are pillow block bearings. The cultipacker wheels have a center diameter of 1 3/4". So you will need a solid steel rod 1 3/4" OD whatever length you want to make your packer, (2) 1 3/4" pillow block bearings and a couple of 1 3/4" ID spacers. The spacers will be between the first and last wheel and the bearings. Agri supply has the wheels and pillow block bearings but the bearings can be picked up via internet as well. Everything just slides on the rod with the pillow blocks holding everything tight together. Everything spins freely, no grease or oil to collect dust and dirt except the bearing and rod. Ours turned out great. We wouldn't change a thing. We did put a removable ball hitch on the tongue that has quick disconnect pins so we can flip it from cultipacker to rubber tires easier. Just unpin the ball hitch, flip the tongue, repin and go.
